Depok-Barijani Mahesa Putra, student of the Public Relations study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) looked stunning in the 2022 Piala Bupati Bantul Cup II roller skating championship. He managed to win three medals, namely two gold medals in the Senior Men 500m+ D category and the Senior Men 1000m category, as well as one silver medal in the Senior Men 3km Rellay category.

Mahesa expressed gratitude for the victory achieved. According to him, the victory this time will continue to motivate him to return to compete in other championships. He is a representative roller skater from the Monastana club, DKI Jakarta. At that championship, the Monastana club came out as the general champion with a total of 20 gold, 14 silver, and 9 bronze medals.

This time, according to Mahesa, was quite challenging compared to other championships. It is because Mahesa has to divide his time for training which also coincides with internship activities or work studies at the DPRD DKI Jakarta as part of the lecture program. “Currently, I am in my fifth semester and am participating in an internship program as a Political Communication Team in one of the political party factions. This internship is part of the lectures that are required for all UI Vocational students,” said Mahesa.

The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, also congratulated Mahesa on his achievements. “Being an athlete and a student at the same time is not an easy thing. Mahesa proved that even though he was busy participating in various championships, he did not forget his obligations as a student. Therefore, I am very proud of what Mahesa has done,” he said.

Mahesa’s journey as a roller skater cannot be separated from the support of his parents, friends, and the Universitas Indonesia. Mahesa added, “I am very grateful and grateful for the support from those closest to me. As an athlete, it is my duty to try and work hard in every competition I participate in. Successfully bringing home a medal is an honor and pride for me. Hopefully what I have achieved can be of benefit to many people and provide inspiration to fellow students.”

The competition which was held in Yogyakarta, 14-16 October 2022 was attended by nearly 850 participants. Mahesa shared his experience of participating in the championship while sharing his time with his internship. “Preparing for the championship this time, I did training every day after carrying out my internship at the DPRD DKI Jakarta. I have to be able to manage my time, considering that internships are sometimes more flexible if there are activities so I have to practice extra the next day,” said the 5th semester Public Relations study program student, UI Vocational Education Program.

He managed to combine achievements from outside the campus and from the academic world, by winning the 2022 UI MOst Outstanding Student at the Vocational Program Level.

Mahesa will return to compete in the Piala Ibu Negara (13-15 December 2022) and the Jakarta Open 2022 (16-18 December 2022) as the year-end closing matches. Vocational UI provides support to athletes/students in participating in various championships.
