Depok-The Covid-19 pandemic in recent years has prompted many changes, especially in the development of digital technology and media consumption patterns by the public. Based on the latest Future of TV research conducted by The Trade Desk, almost one in three Indonesians stream over-the-top or known as OTT. In fact, Indonesians consume 3.5 billion hours of content every month. Meanwhile, Populix research data in 2022, 74% of Indonesian people are users and enjoyers of video-on-demand (VOD) services. Some OTT and VOD that are widely consumed by Indonesian people are Netflix, Disney+, Viu, WeTV, HBO Go, YouTube, Vidio, Mola TV, and others. Seeing this phenomenon, the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), participated in producing graduates who have competence in the fields of OTT and VOD media.

On November 3, 2023, eight Media Production students who chose the OTT/VOD specialization made an industrial visit to WeTV Indonesia at The Plaza Office Tower, Jakarta. On this occasion, students received material regarding selecting content that can be broadcast, distributing content, and evaluating content from WeTV by the Content Operations team.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., explained that the OTT and VOD trends that are mushrooming in Indonesia have great potential in Indonesia. Various series and film content are highly consumed by the public. So, there is a need for a young generation to be at the forefront of the development of various new media in Indonesia. He said, “Learning directly from industry will provide new experiences and insights for students when they enter the world of work. Provisions from industry can also be taken for implementation when students are working on their final assignments.”

The WeTV Customer Management Team also provides information regarding consumer satisfaction, handling complaints, as well as company evaluations of suggestions given by consumers. Apart from that, one of the scriptwriters and creative producers at WeTV, Bagus Bramanti, also conveyed the production culture at WeTV and how it differs from the production culture in the film industry. The activity closed with an office tour carried out by Media Production students at WeTV.
