Depok-In order to broaden the horizons of students’ knowledge regarding media industry insights, the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) conducted a company visit to Metro TV located in Kedoya, West Jakarta on Friday (06/10). The visit was accompanied by the Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom.

Rangga said, “This industry visit invites new students to get to know the basics of law and ethics in the media world. So, they get initial provisions before entering the various media industries they want. In addition, the opportunity to learn directly from practitioners in the industry will increase their attraction to the media industry.”

During the visit, students were invited to conduct a sharing session together with Metro TV practitioner, Arief Suditomo, News Director & Chief Editor of Metro TV who is also a lecturer in the Media Production Law and Ethics course in the Media Production study program; Yohanes Lewar, Metro TV News Production Manager; Aries Fadhillah, Deputy Chief Editor of Metro TV; and Dina, Head of Digital Social Media Hub Metro TV. The sharing session provided new insights and ideas to students. So, they can use these ideas as references, referrals and guidelines in studying and evaluating their career prospects.

Apart from that, the sharing session also included discussions regarding the transition and convergence of digital media in conveying news, the use of digital media in news production, the process of producing content with originality, authenticity and differentiation values. Then, the substitution of artificial intelligence (AI) as a news producer, as well as in-depth discussions regarding journalism ethics, objectivity, research and media verification when dealing with political situations and dilemmas in Indonesia.

This visit was closed with a series of office tours. Students also have the opportunity to interact with Metro TV professionals, and understand directly the use of technology, production processes and strategies implemented in the media world. So, they can make a connection between the theory learned in class and its application in industry.
