Depok-Creative Business Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a public lecture entitled “Navigating Career: What is the Opportunity to Work in E-commerce Business Development and Enabler Sales Team?” on March 6, 2023 at the UI Vocational Auditorium. The public lecture invited Naoto Osada, CEO of PT Transcosmos Commerce as the keynote speaker and Acintya Mananoma, Project Manager of PT Transcosmos Commerce as speakers.

In his remarks, Deni Danial Kesa, MBA., Ph.D, Vice Director for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at UI Vocational, said that students need to know that work potential is currently dominated by digital-based industries. Thus, e-commerce is one of the right choices to seek these opportunities. “We can learn a lot from Transcosmos in managing trade that has adapted to technology. Later, students can also carry out internships at Transcosmos as one of the implementations of collaboration with UI Vocational,” said Deni.

In his keynote speech, Naoto said that competence and knowledge in the IT field to carry out every field of work are currently increasingly global. According to him, skills in the scope of e-commerce are quite rare. Several countries have implemented this system, including China, the United States, and Thailand. “Transcosmos, as an electronic trading company, is participating in promoting trade in Indonesia through an integrated and increasingly sophisticated system,” he said.

Naoto also said that currently the younger generation needs to develop competence, especially in the IT and digital sphere, in order to seek job opportunities in the e-commerce field. These competencies need to be developed and will later be applied in the world of work.

In line with Naoto’s opinion, Acintya explained how important skills are for students before entering the world of work. In his presentation, Acintya explained that one of the skills that needs to be possessed in the field of e-commerce is to increase sales figures. “For all companies, increasing sales figures is an important point. Sales officers need to see and carry out several strategies, including sales potential, clearance sales, market potential, and consumer needs,” explained Acintya.

In addition, several other important competencies are communication skills, both internal to the company and consumers. Acintya said, “Communication is very important for the sustainability of a company and has an impact on sales. Companies also need to know that today’s consumers want everything fast. Thus, a fast-paced company becomes a company system that can adapt to this.”
