Depok-Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a Agreement of Implementation (PKS) signing ceremony with TuneCore, a subsidiary of Believe which focuses on providing an online music distribution platform for independent musicians, on December 14, 2023. The event was attended by Dahlia Wijaya, Country Director of Believe Indonesia; Cyrus Chen, Head of TuneCore, South East Asia; Andi Arya Dwi Putra, Senior Country Coordinator TuneCore Indonesia; and Gian Hashemi, TuneCore Ambassador Indonesia.

Based in the United States, TuneCore has been a subsidiary of Believe since 2015 and operates locally in fourteen countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and United States. TuneCore’s music distribution service helps artists, labels and managers sell their music through Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Tencent, TikTok and more than 150 digital music platforms worldwide.

The signing of the PKS was carried out by Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program and Cyrus Chen, Head of TuneCore, South East Asia. Officially, a collaboration program between UI Vocational and TuneCore has been built. This collaboration program focuses on the Freedom to Learn (MBKM) internship for Media Production students. Apart from that, other collaboration opportunities in the teaching form from TuneCore practitioners to students are also open to be implemented.

Padang said that the collaboration with TuneCore was a form of link and match between education and industry, especially those networked globally. “This collaboration can increase opportunities for UI Vocational students to have careers in multinational companies and become quality graduates. We also hope that this form of collaboration with TuneCore can be extended to other higher education three pillars of higher education,” said Padang.

After signing the PKS, Media Production students were given the opportunity to get to know more about Believe and TuneCore which were presented by Andi Arya Putra and Gian Hashemi. Comprehensively explains the development of the digital music ecosystem, especially TuneCore, and the independent music production process. Apart from that, Media Production students also exhibited footage of various musical works they had produced.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., said that collaboration with TuneCore could improve the quality of education at UI Vocational and students would receive sufficient provisions to face the dynamic music industry in the future. Rangga said, “The partnership between UI Vocational and TuneCore also shows an innovative initiative that is ready to shape the future of music in Indonesia.”
