Depok-Students of the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) have just attended the biggest annual fashion week, Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2024 on October 25, 2023. Located at City Hall, Pondok Indah Mall 3, this prestigious fashion event presents various Indonesian and foreign designers to showcase their fashion designs. The Media Production study program, which has a focus in the field of fashion media, also invites its students to study directly and see processes in the fashion industry, so that students can learn from all forms of communication or conveying information about the fashion industry.

Media Production students had the opportunity to see various fashion collections designed by South Korean designers, LIE by Lee Chung Chung and Vegan Tiger by Yang Yoona. Chairwoman of Jakarta Fashion Week, Svida Alisjahbana, who is also a lecturer in Media Production, invited students to attend and learn about the process of running a fashion show.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., explained that the invitation received by Media Production students at the JFW event had been implemented since the previous year, namely JFW 2023. “Through this event, Media Production provides an opportunity for students to increase their interest they are in the field of fashion media. “One of the Media Production students is currently also taking part in the JFW 2024 event as an intern,” said Rangga.

Matthew De Jano, Media Production student, helped with the JFW 2024 project. He had the opportunity to coordinate with the press, designers, and several times as a photographer at several JFW 2024 shows. Matthew explained that being part of JFW 2024 was an interesting new experience for him. He said, “I have an interest in the field of fashion media. So, the opportunity to join as part of JFW 2024 provides an opportunity for me to network with fashion industry players in Indonesia. “I hope that this internship program can be a provision for me before entering the fashion industry after graduating.”

After watching the show, students were invited to tour the work process of the JFW 2024 event. Some of the rooms shown are front of house (FOH), make-up room, press lounge, and model preparation room before walking on the runway.
