Depok – The Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program launched a teaching factory as one of the student practice learning media. This activity was held in conjunction with the launch of the Digital Financial Center (DFC), which is one of the teaching factories supported by BNI Sekuritas. The inauguration which was held on Tuesday (21/03) was attended by Putu Bagus Kresna, Director of BNI Sekuritas and Efrizal, Head of Institutional Banking 2 Division of BNI.

The teaching factory is a product- or service-based learning model through the synergy of universities and industry to produce graduates who are competent and in accordance with industry needs. This learning model aims to improve skills, knowledge, and attitudes. The UI Vocational teaching factory is here to bridge the goals of vocational education in an effort to form and create competent human resources according to the needs of the industrial world.

Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said that the teaching factory is a means to improve the quality of vocational education in Indonesia. “The teaching factory aims to provide experience for UI Vocational students to carry out simulations and hands-on practice as in the world of work. So, graduates from UI Vocational will have skills and competencies that are in line with industry needs,” said Padang.

Several teaching factories that had previously been launched, namely the Vocational Wellness Center (VWC) Clinic, Tax Clinic, Vocast Media, AdLab, Vocational Institutions, Vcoop Mart, and the recently inaugurated DFC. Padang hopes that the teaching factory can help improve the quality of the workforce in Indonesia and combine collaboration between the world of education and the world of work.

Furthermore, Putu Bagus Kresna expressed his support and appreciation for UI’s Vocational steps in launching the teaching factory as a means to produce a qualified and work-ready workforce. Putu said, “We hope that the support provided from the industry can be useful and create a link and match between the world of education and the world of industry. We are waiting for competent and qualified UI Vocational students and graduates to attend and build a better industry.”

In this activity, Vocational UI academics and partners were invited to tour and see teaching factory practices and simulations owned by UI Vocational. Later, students from any study program can carry out learning activities at any teaching factory to improve their quality and abilities, especially practical skills.
