Depok-Apart from achieving academically, UI students also collect various championship titles in various sports competitions. One of them is I Putu Surya Putra Atmaja, a student of the Occupational Therapy Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI). “I am very happy, because I have struggled since the first semester until now, finally being able to bring UI’s name to the national level for taekwondo sports,” said the student who is also a member of the UI Taekwondo Student Activity Unit (UKM).

I Putu Surya won a silver medal at the Kejuaraan Dewan Guru Taekwondo Indonesia (DGTI) Taekwondo Championship 2023 at the end of May 2023. The national level championship was contested for the Kemenpora Cup at the Ciracas Sports Hall, East Jakarta, which was attended by more than 800 participants from all over Indonesia. In this competition, Putu won second place in the Kyorugi Senior Men Under 67kg category.

He has been involved in taekwondo since he was in Junior High School. For Putu, the sport of taekwondo is very interesting and easy to learn, such as kicks, punches and moves that are useful for both physical and martial arts. Since joining UKM Taekwondo UI, Putu has continued to hone his skills and made taekwondo a place for him to make UI proud.

He also hopes that the sport of taekwondo will develop, progress, and be of interest to many people. Apart from that, Putu also continues to strive to bring the name Taekwondo UI forward and develop, not only at the campus level, but also at the national and international levels.

As a UI Vocational Occupational Therapy student, Putu said that practical learning in a crowded laboratory was one of the challenges for him in sharing his time with taekwondo practice. “In a week, I can practice three times at the UI Student Activity Center. As the competition approaches, I focus for a whole month by training diligently and maintaining my diet. Even so, this did not interfere with my study time. In fact, these two activities allowed me to learn how to manage my time and prioritize well,” Putu said.

The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, expressed his pride for Putu’s achievements on May 19-21, 2023. “I hope Putu can continue to develop his skills and succeed in bringing UI’s name to a higher level.”
