Depok-The music industry is currently experiencing very rapid and significant development. Media and technology exist as a forum to help the spread of music expand rapidly. The development of the music industry has great potential, so it is good for the younger generation to understand the potential of the music market and technological developments, as well as innovations that will occur in the future.

Seeing these conditions, the Media Production Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), organizes curriculum-based education that is in line with current industry needs, one of which is the music industry. Through an inbound lecture that presented Gabriel Chemin, General Project Manager of Spotify, Media Production study program students were invited to get to know the current market for the music industry and how to adapt to the industry.

Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., CICS, MIPR, Head of the Media Production Study Program, said that music is one of the media that is starting to compete in today’s industry. He said, “Music is one of the media that some people need nowadays, therefore we need to use it to penetrate the industrial market share. I hope that Media Production students can become people who are close to the music media and play a role in the development of the music industry in Indonesia in the future.”

Reporting from CNN data, Spotify is one of the most used music streaming services in the world with figures reaching 350 million users. The audio content provided by Spotify does not only focus on music, but is also packaged in the form of podcasts.

Chemin said, “In the music industry, one thing you need to know is that promotions are very important. For example, nowadays many independent musicians are starting to appear to introduce their work to the public. They need to put in more effort to reach the music charts through various promotions.”

He gave a number of tips to the younger generation who want to work through independent music channels so that they are better known, namely by promoting through digital platforms, participating in various music festivals, or broadcasting live through digital media or radio.

“The development of platforms and digital content is currently increasing rapidly, both for films, books and even music. The number of music platforms is currently not too many, so there is still potential for new platforms to emerge. As creative human beings, we must remain sensitive and adaptive to changes in the current digital era,” concluded Chemin.
