Depok-The rapid development of digitalization can be used for various needs, including improving the education quality in Indonesia. Digitalization is also a resource for education to continue to innovate and strive for curriculum development. Responding to this challenge, the Media Production Study Program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the CONTENT LAB PROMED (COLAB) program, made a study visit to Google Indonesia on Friday, June 17. Also attending to accompany the students were the Head of the Media Production Study Program, N. Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., CICS, MIPR, and the Head of the UI Professional Certification Institute (LSP UI) also a lecturer in the Media Production Study Program, Dr. Rahmi Setiawati, S.Sos., M.Si. In addition to providing students with hands-on experience on how to work in the industry, the visit was also carried out in order to explore collaboration between UI Vocational and Google Indonesia.

On that occasion, Dr. Achmad Istamar, Country Head-Indonesia of Google Customer Solutions, was here to explain about the Google industry in Indonesia. He also agreed on the form of collaboration to be carried out in the form of developing the joint curriculum.

UI Vocational Media Production is an applied bachelor study program that focuses on developing new media. Google Indonesia is one of the industry partners that will synergize with UI Vocational Media Production. The steps to be taken are collaboration plans such as developing and managing the curriculum for Digital Publication and Media Content Monetization courses which will be opened in odd semesters.

In addition, Dr. Achmad Istamar will also be appointed as a lecturer for Digital Publication and Media Content Monetization courses in the Media Production study program. With practitioners attending as lecturers, it is hoped that the experience and material provided to students can be relevant to the industry in the related field today.

“In producing content in digital media, a certified creative content creator is needed. These competencies are needed in dealing with the creative economy industry in line with the increasing demand for human resources in digital media,” Achmad explained.

In line with these needs, Rangga also hopes that the exploration of this collaboration can be carried out soon and expand to other scopes. Thus, the vocational curriculum applied at UI Vocational can be implemented properly and in accordance with industry needs.

“COLAB as one of the flagship programs and the hallmark of the UI Vocational Media Production study program, is a form of focus for the applied bachelor study program in elaborating theory and practice. The collaboration plan with Google Indonesia is expected to continue to develop the curriculum. Students as one of the objectives of the study program will benefit from the collaboration between the Media Production Study Program and Google Indonesia so that it can be a reference for application to science and society,” explained Rangga.

After Google Indonesia, the Media Production Study Program will conduct study visits to several other industry partners. This can assist the development and relevance of the curriculum to industry needs, increase student knowledge and experience, and open up opportunities for collaboration with other industries.
