Depok-As a higher education institution that plays a role in the transformation of digitalization, the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) carries out community service on the use of digital media as a promotional channel for various products of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) produced by residents of Panggang Island, Thousand Island.

This island is a suitable location to serve as the main axis in the Thousand Island for the program. There are approximately 40 MSMEs, so that the output of this community service can later provide benefits for improving the quality of the Indonesian economy. UI Vocational introduces digital branding as a marketing strategy for MSMEs actors on Panggang Island.

This activity was carried out in the form of training held at the Panggang Island Village Office in front of 30 people who attended on August 30, 2022. Digital branding activities start from creating a name for the business they own to creating a logo that can become the identity of the business of Panggang Island residents.

The steps in the digital branding process are to first determine the goals, values, unique selling proposition (USP), and the target audience of the business you own. The MSMEs participants engaged in the food, maritime, and supermarket businesses seemed enthusiastic because this was the first time universities had come to share their knowledge with them. As Mulyaningsih said, “I thank the students from the Universitas Indonesia, it makes Panggang Island residents very happy for this activity because this is indeed a new thing for us to learn about digital. Hopefully in the years to come we can come back again for new knowledge and can strengthen the relationship.”

In addition, Panggang Island residents were also educated on how to use social media for marketing their business products. “We also provide an understanding of the importance of their logo and trademark management in Intellectual Property Rights (IP). This will have many benefits, such as legal protection, legally valid proof of brand ownership, adding to the value of product assets, and others,” said the Head of the UI Vocational community service team, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., CICS, MIPR.
