Depok-Public Relations study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) visited the Diakoneia Modern Campus Foundation (KDM) last November 23, 2023. The visit was accompanied by a Public Relations lecturer, namely Melisa Sandrianti, M.Psi.T and was a concrete implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) theory in a community context. Apart from that, this activity is not just an exploration, but also a real effort by students to make a positive contribution to society. Located in Bekasi, West Java, the KDM Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1972 and focuses on helping street and homeless children get a better future. Currently, the KDM Foundation focuses its services on promoting and fulfilling children’s rights.

S.S. Benyamin Lumy, S.Sos., as Director of the KDM Foundation, gave a speech and explained a brief profile of KDM. He explained the vision of the KDM Foundation, namely awakening children’s best potential through creating a suitable environment for them. “We show children’s achievements and potential, not show sad things to change views about marginalized children,” said Benyamin.

Jessica Hutting, Manager of the KDM Foundation Community Rescue and Strengthening Program, explained concrete examples of private and community partnerships that contributed to activities and community empowerment programs implemented by the KDM Foundation. “One of our programs is BOLA (Playing Sports to Protect Children) which aims to become a movement to protect children through sports in Indonesia,” said Jessica.

Furthermore, students carry out various activities with various study groups at the KDM Foundation. These activities vary, from teaching children at early childhood education programs until elementary school level, processing bottle waste (upcycling), to the MANDALA (Independent, Empowered, Sustainable) Waste Bank program with a focus on waste management. All interaction activities are creatively designed by students supported by supervisors at the KDM Foundation.

Through this interaction, students in groups are expected to be able to create digital content in the form of short videos via the Instagram and TikTok platforms with the hashtag #PRUIxKDM. This content aims to encourage participation and further support for activities at the KDM Foundation. This is also a form of student participation in building community awareness and participation in community development initiatives carried out by the KDM Foundation.
