Depok-Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) held an Industry Talk entitled “Challenges of Vocational Human Resources in the Post-Pandemic COVID-19 Era 4.0” on Tuesday (6/10). This activity was held to support of the Directorate of Partnership and Alignment of Business and Industry – Directorate General of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. This event was attended by more than 500 participants online, presented three speakers who were UI Vocational partners, namely Junaedi, S.Sos., M.Si (The Regent of Administrasi Kepulauan Seribu), Mohamad Mirdal Akib (CEO of Media Group), and Dr. . Hermawan Saputra, SKM., MARS., CICS, (The Central Board of Ikatan Ahli Kesehatan Masyarakat Indonesia (IAKMI)). This Industry Talk was conducted to obtain the latest information about the needs of the workforce and how the professional transformation in the post-COVID-19 era in the government sector, the media industry and the health sector.

Also attending to open the activity, the Director of Vocational Education Program Univesitas Indonesia Prof. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo, DEA, said that the COVID-19 pandemic presents a challenge to make changes to work patterns and habits in teaching, work and other life arrangements. “We are required to be able to educate students to work from home because maybe the way of working in several industries in the future will continue like this,” said Prof. Sigit explained.

Prof. Sigit also mentioned that Vocational UI has implemented the 321 curriculum, students for 3 semesters studying on campus, 2 semesters studying in industry and 1 semester of internship. In addition, Vocational UI also equips students with competency certificates. According to him, “We also regularly involve industry in curriculum renewal. The closeness to the industry has shown results such as UI Vocational graduates being able to be absorbed less than 3 months after graduation. “

The Regent of Administrasi Kepulauan Seribu Junaedi said, “There are 9 fields of work that will require Vocational graduates, including tourism, fisheries and fish cultivation, trade, industrial processing, education, transportation, energy, telecommunications and health.” As a form of partnership, starting in 2020, the Thousand Islands Government has sent students in the Thousand Islands to study at Vocational UI in the Industrial Regional Cooperation (KSDI) program.

To answer the challenges in the media industry sector, Vocational UI has collaborated with the Media Group in the form of partnerships to provide TV laboratories and internships at the UI Depok campus. This collaboration is in line with UI Vocational efforts to strengthen links and matches between universities and industry.

CEO Media Group Mohamad Mirdal Akib explained that in the future there will be a revolution in the broadcasting industry. This is an opportunity for the Vocational TV Laboratory to be able to participate and play a role. “The entry of a digital television system is good news for Vocational friends because TV will be present in large numbers. By migrating to digital, the UI Vocational TV Laboratory will have the opportunity to transform into terrestrial digital TV. It is enough to follow the process, determine the genre and then be able to rent a frequency, until finally it can broadcast, “Mirdal explained.

Mirdal also mentioned that the media industry was experiencing major disruption. “Now content can be delivered through various platforms. People are now able to create channels and shows independently, while in the past, this was a luxury TV company. For this reason, the generations that will survive are those who are able to adapt to change. Young people who will enter the world of work are those with strong competence and character that can adapt to change, “said Mirdal.

In terms of health services, especially hospitals, Vocational UI which is also collaborating with IAKMI to discuss the development of competencies for graduates in the health sector owned by Vocational Education Program Universitas Indonesia. The Central Board of IAKMI Dr. Hermawan Saputra, SKM., MARS., CICS, outlines the current and post-COVID-19 challenges in the health sector. According to him, “In the hospital service sector, a workforce who is capable of providing hospitality services is needed, transformative communicators for education and communication, hospital data analysts, big data specialists, and accounting control. In these aspects, vocational personnel are needed to bring the hospital into a new era, “Hermawan said.
