Depok-As time goes by, technological developments continue to increase. The growing trend of digitalization of technology is a manifestation of the extraordinary event of the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak that has hit the world in recent years. Thus, the world community is required to be literate and adapt to these technological developments. One of the increasingly increasing technological developments is the use of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Reflecting these developments, the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), conducted an industrial visit to one of the companies operating in the field of AR, VR and AI immersive technology, namely WIR Group. The visit, which was carried out on November 29, 2023, was accompanied by the Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom.

WIR Group is a company founded in 2009. The main focus currently is providing AR-based technology services by combining various VR, AI, Internet of Things (IoT) technologies, as well as other supporting technologies, such as blockchain and mechatronics. This technology is used as a means to produce ideas and products that enable interaction between the virtual world and the real world that are tailored to the needs of each consumer.
Rangga said that the company visit activity was carried out for students to deepen their knowledge in the field of Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and would later be implemented through collaboration with animation, design, as well as gaming and esports skills. Rangga explained, “A lot of AR and VR are used in making games. I hope that students can learn this technology to become more adept at creating creative works in the form of games and others.”

During the visit, Media Production study program students were explained in depth about the history, development and subsidiaries of the WIR Group such as AR&Co, DAV, Mind Stores, and DM ID which are web 2.0 based, as well as Nusameta which is web 3.0 based. They were also introduced to several works from AR which had been collaborated with several brands in collaboration with the WIR Group.
Apart from that, students also have the opportunity to do work by utilizing AR technology created and prototypes that are being developed by the WIR Group. Rangga added, “Every information and experience provided by WIR Group will be useful for students and can be implemented when they do internships and graduate from UI Vocational later.”
