Depok-Nine students from the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), participated in the 2024 National Consumer Day Festival (Harkonas) which was held on April 18-21, 2024. The event which was held at Trans Studio Mall Cibubur was a festival organized by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia in the form of exhibitions, talks and competitions which were open to the general public.

Student participation in this event is an implementation of collaboration between the Media Production study program, especially OX-Lab, a laboratory for game development concentration, which is a member of the Indonesian Game Association (AGI). So, students can show off the game they created, namely WETANI | Scarecow In Shot and Lodaya Conquest. Apart from Media Production, the 2024 Harkonas Festival also presents other booths in the gaming sector as well as fashion and culinary MSMEs.

WETANI | Scarecow In Shot is a 2D pixel game that invites players to shoot as many scarecrows as possible to score. This game managed to win second place in the Fun Choice category in the GameJam Plus Indonesia 2023 competition. The game can be played at the link madh-creative.itch.io/wetani-2/. Meanwhile, Lodaya Conquest is a game with the action and adventure genre. In this game, players must be able to complete existing missions by exploring the arena, defeating enemies, and collecting the items needed. The game has a 2D visual appearance with pixel and illustrator art styles. Based on the legendary story about the origins of Reog Ponorogo culture, the game can be played at the link https://promed-ui.itch.io/lodaya-conquest/.

The students involved in making the game were Fikri Hasan, Dani Bintang Aprilyanto, Rifqi Raditya, Bella Maedevia, Maulana Putra Alvian, Omar Xavier Uthman, Muhammad Aqshal, Darren Aqilaah, and Cakrasena. One of the students, Fikri, said that his and other students’ participation in the festival was a new experience to show off the game products they had. Fikri said, “Visitors’ enthusiasm for the games we are exhibiting is very positive. This is a motivation for us to be able to create other game products in the future.”

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., explained that the implementation of UI Vocational practice-based curriculum was realized in the form of game products that had been created by students. According to him, student participation in the festival will increase their preparation before entering the industrial world. “I hope that the game products made by Media Production students will receive positive attention and attract public interest,” concluded Rangga.
