Depok-Two students of the Creative Advertising Study Program, Vocational Education Program, University of Indonesia, received funding for the Vocational Student Entrepreneurship Program (PWMV) 2021 organized by the Directorate of Vocational and Professional Higher Education, Directorate General of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Republic of Indonesia. This Vocational Student Entrepreneurship Program has been open since March 2021 and is attended by more than 1,000 student groups. The two students are Bulan Maria Mundi Octavia and Najwa Chairunnisa with startup ETSTELLAS.ID. This startup is a type of manufacturing business that focuses on local Indonesian online clothing brands that sell various clothes with unisex oversized designs.
Bulan Maria explained that in the program selection process, each participant was asked to provide business ideas, noble business goals, targeted markets, product information, how to build relationships with customers, business resources, and others. “Out of 1000 who registered, 455 groups managed to get funding aimed at establishing and advancing student businesses in various fields. After the funding is given, each group will be assessed and must submit a report on its business progress,” said Bulan.
Bulan said that ETSTELLAS.ID is committed to being more creative in the fashion industry according to the times. “We see that currently many young people buy goods, especially clothing, from abroad, so we are thinking of creating a clothing brand that is no less good than foreign brands,” said Bulan.
The clothing industry is also a large segment and is recording the highest production growth among other sectors throughout the first quarter of 2019. Najwa said that with the Creative Advertising science studied at UI Vocational, her team will implement appropriate branding, creative, and media strategies to improve public awareness of the brand.
“With the funding provided, in addition to business and operational capital, we will use it for promotion through digital ads, such as on Instagram, Facebook, and others. Of course, the various media placements above will be supported by creative concepts that are appropriate and out of the box, so that they have an appeal. That’s where we will apply Creative Advertising,” said Najwa.
The Head of the Creative Advertising Study Program, Naldo, M.Si., said that entrepreneurship is one of the basic courses given to UI Vocational students. It is because Vocational UI wants to provide the widest opportunity and insight for students to become competent workers and entrepreneurs who can create jobs. “We do not limit students to compete only in the field of advertising or communication. With this entrepreneurial competition, they will have good experience in managing a business. Of course, the science of advertising will be very useful to be applied to the business that is started,” Naldo explained.[:]
