Depok-University of Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program launched the Creative Business Study Program for the Applied Bachelor level (D4) in the upcoming Odd Semester 2021/2020. In this study program, students will study courses using problem-solving based innovation methods and how to implement a business project. Graduates of the Creative Business Study Program are expected to have the competence to become business innovation planners, potential mapping consultants, and creative business actors based on innovation and technology.

“They are Generation Z who are expected to be able to create qualified startups to meet the needs of the creative industry,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo, DEA, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program. “The curriculum applied is 70% practical and 30% theory. The lecturers in the study program are experienced practitioners in their fields, so it is hoped that graduates will be ready to enter the job market and even be encouraged to create jobs,” said Prof. Sigit.

Head of Creative Business Studies Program, Deni Danial Kesa, MBA., Ph.D. explained that the creative industry has enormous potential. This is due to the large opportunity for the use of creativity, skills, and individual talents obtained through exploring the creative power and creativity of the individual/group. “Students will learn how to form a startup, build a market, analyze marketing strategies, the negotiation process, to provide highly skilled resources,” said Deni.


Startup business in the creative industry which is a trend in Indonesia is growing rapidly and is in great demand by millennials. The Startup Ranking notes that Indonesia ranks fifth in the world with the largest number of startup companies, namely 2,193 startups in 2019 — after the United States, India, United Kingdom, and Canada. Since 2016, the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has launched creative economy programs in various sectors including Game Developers, Architecture, Interior Design, Music, Fine Arts, Product Design, Fashion, Culinary, Film, Animation and Video, Photography, Design Visual Communications, Television and Radio, Crafts, Advertising, Performing Arts, Publishing and Applications. Deni said, “Students will take applied undergraduate education for eight (8) semesters and must complete 144 credits to be able to obtain an Applied Bachelor of Creative Business or S.Tr.Bns degree.”

In the 2021/2022 Academic Year, the UI Vocational Education Program offers 15 selected study programs for prospective students. Nine Study Programs are for the intermediate expert level, namely Hospital Administration, Accounting, Public Relations, Creative Advertising, Multimedia Broadcasting, Insurance and Actuarial Administration, Finance and Banking Administration, Office Administration, and Tax Administration. In addition, there are six study programs for the Applied Bachelor level, namely Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Records and Archives Management, Creative Business, Media Production, and Tourism Business Management.
