Depok-Two students of the Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), made another achievement in the non-academic field at the 2022 National First Lady Cup roller skate racing championship. Jurnalis Nurhakim Baharizki, a Tax Administration study program student, won five gold medals in the 1000m category; Team Sprint 500m+D; 5000m Team Time Trials; 3000m relays; and 200m Dual Time Trials. Meanwhile, Barijani Mahesa Putra, a Public Relations study program student, won four gold medals in the 500m+D category; 3km relays; Team Sprint 500m+D; 10km Team Time Trial, and one silver medal for the 1000m category. The national championship which was held at the Jakarta International Roller Track Arena (JIRTA), Sunter on 10-17 December 2022 was attended by more than 100 athletes from various provinces.

Hakim and Mahesa, who are a team from DKI Jakarta, revealed that the championship this time was quite challenging because Jakarta was the host for the 2022 First Lady Cup competition. “Initially, I did not expect to get a gold medal this time. Especially when I see other regional athletes who are quite competitive during the match. However, we managed to give the best performance and won many medals for DKI Jakarta,” said Hakim.

According to him, preparation for the championship is quite mature through routine training before the game, making the right strategy, and working with the team to prepare as best as possible. He also routinely evaluates himself to find out his weaknesses and strengths, as well as the best training program given by the coach for him and other athletes.

On the other hand, Mahesa has its own challenges in preparing for the championship this time. He said, “In the midst of the busy internship schedule at the DPRD DKI Jakarta, it made me have to get permission to practice several times and it became a bit of an obstacle. However, regular and extra training will be the provision for me to take part in the championship in a ready and mature manner.”

In a different event, namely the 2022 Jakarta Open, Mahesa also won one silver medal for the 1000m category and two bronze medals for the 100m and 3km relay categories. The championship, which was also held at JIRTA, was held on 16-18 December 2022.

Mahesa said, “I am quite satisfied with winning medals from various championships to meet my target in 2022 and it is quite commensurate with the effort and hard work that I have put in. In 2023, I will continue to actively participate in roller skating championships, although the busyness of doing internships and preparing final work assignments will also be a new challenge for me.”

Mahesa will again prepare to take part in various international and national championships, namely the Arena Geisingen International in Germany in April; Asian Games in Hangzhou in September; Bali Marathon; as well as the Aceh PON Qualification Round (PRA PON XXI) in August 2023.

In contrast to Mahesa, Hakim, who has just entered his second semester at UI Vocational, said that time management between lectures and training needs to be balanced. “I want to try a variety of new things, such as an organization on campus, expanding relationships, and doing internships at companies that I want. Apart from that, I also target myself to win the Asian Games in Hangzhou and qualify for the upcoming PRA PON XXI,” said Hakim.

Hakim has made his alma mater and DKI Jakarta proud by winning medals in the 2022 Bekasi Open Regent championship, namely 1st place in Speed Elimination 10,000m KU Junsen Putra; Champion 2 Speed 200m ITT Junsen Men; and 2nd place in the Men’s Junsen Relay, and the 2022 Bantul Cup II Regent championship, namely 2nd place in Men’s 500m KU Senior; 2nd Place 3000m Relay KU Senior Men; and 3rd place in Men’s 200m KU Senior.

Padang Wicaksono, S.E, Ph.D, Director of the UI Vocational Education Program expressed his full support for Hakim and Mahesa. “UI Vocational are certainly very proud of the achievements made by Hakim and Mahesa. The medals they brought home are proof that UI Vocational students are not only excelling in the academic field, but also non-academic, especially in sports. UI Vocational continues to support all positive activities carried out by students. Hopefully the achievements of the two can be a motivation for other students to also make achievements,” said Padang.
