JAKARTA – The City Government (Pemkot) of Palangka Raya, Vocational Education Program of the Universitas Indonesia (UI), Palangka Raya University (UP) and Muhammadiyah University of Palangka Raya (UMP) held a National Seminar on Optimizing the Spatial Planning of Palangka Raya City with the theme “Palangka Raya Kota Harati, Welcoming Discourse on Transfer of Capital “, Tuesday (9/18/2018) in Jakarta. “UI’s vocational education as an educational institution is obliged to contribute to the development of the nation. In this case synergy with the regional government becomes very important,” explained Prof. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo Director of the UI Vocational Education Program to Kompas.com regarding the background of this seminar.

Discourse Study on Palangka Raya as Capital Some speakers attended as speakers at the National Seminar on “Spatial Optimization of the City of Palangka Raya A Regional Complex Approach” namely Riban Satia, Mayor of Palangka Raya, presented the material: “Spatial Planning of the City of Palangka Raya”. Airin Rachmi Diany, Mayor of South Tangerang, presented the theme: “Strategy for Handling the Problems of Structuring South Tangerang City”. Yayat Supriatna, Urban Expert, presented the theme: “Technology and City Development in the Future”. Antony Sihombing, UI Urban Design Expert, presented the material: “Optimizing Urban Spaces as a Modern and Smart City Preparation”.

This national seminar aims to enrich the study room in realizing the ideal City of Palangka Raya in the future. It is also hoped that this can be a solution for urban development because it can meet the needs of today’s cities without reducing the ability to meet the needs of future generations. Planning, structuring and collaboration “The transfer of the city must be able to manage the arrangement of the city. A city must have aesthetic value and a good atmosphere so that the city is comfortable. So that city planning must be optimal, “explained Riban Satia, Mayor of Palangka Raya. He added that the City of Palangka Raya had Bung Karno’s noble ideals in 3M namely Capital, Model and Modern. On another occasion Airin Rachmi Diany, Mayor of South Tangerang emphasized that planning becomes the main key and commitment that must be done in running the city planning after planning. Airin also said the city government must also build collaboration with many related parties in realizing it.

The concept of smart city builds on civilization Yayat Supriatna, Urban Experts say that urban service systems have changed fundamentally. The efficiency of space, labor and transportation costs will decrease. The Smart City concept is very important to be supported. “Smart City is building city civilization. Smart City is not just a concept but a symbol of change. Failure to understand change will make the city fail to build a planned space structure, explained Yayat Supriatna. According to him, Smart City is a symbol of efficiency and speed of service. When the city fails to build its system, then waste and chaos become the “fruit” of unpreparedness for change. “Big Data is an important key in service for Smart City,” Yayat said in his material.

UI Vocational Cooperation and Palangka Raya City Government Antony Sihombing, Deputy Director of the UI Vocational Education Program and UI Urban Design Expert said the Palangka Raya City Government has collaborated with UI in conducting a study on the optimization of Palangka Raya City spatial planning. “Palangkaraya is a zero earthquake city and has been planned for the Capital City. The geography is geographically very strategic and Palangka Raya is in the middle of Kalimantan. Harati City: smart, virtuous and disciplined is very appropriate for smart city Palangka Raya City ”Antony added.

In addition to the collaboration of the national seminar on this study, the UI Vocational Program has collaborated with the City Government of Palangka Raya in terms of regional education through the KSDI (Regional and Industrial Cooperation) program. In this program, the local sons receive a scholarship from the City Government to study in the UI Vocational Program and after graduating in their home region. In addition, the Vocational UI also collaborates in city studies and information system development in Palangka Raya. The seminar also presented speakers from various provinces in Indonesia who presented the results of their studies related to the development of urban planning in their respective provinces. “UI Vocational hopes to continue to contribute to the region through various programs. We believe that the synergy between educational institutions, industry and government will greatly contribute to the progress of cities, provinces and countries,” concluded Prof. Sigit.
