Labuan Bajo-The Universitas Indonesia (UI) Community Service Team and PT Penjamin Infrastruktur Indonesia (PT PII) held an education program called Bergizi dari Bumi Kami at the West Manggarai Regent’s Office, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. This program is a community service partnership with PT PII and is a multidisciplinary program between the Public Relations Study Program, Vocational Education Program and also the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Indonesia. The program entitled Edukasi dan Kampanye Sosial “Bergizi dari Bumi Kami” aims to increase the knowledge of the target community about nutritious food that can be easily obtained in NTT, as well as good processing methods so that nutritional content is maintained. There are 2 (two) series of activities, including: 1) Focus Group Discussion (FGD) (03/09/2021) involving key stakeholders from government elements, public health center, and the NTT Stunting Working Group and 2) Cooking Workshop Program. The workshop activities included 25 representatives of integrated healthcare center cadres and parents of stunting toddlers in 4 villages/kelurahan, namely Gorontalo Village, Waekelambu Village, Labuan Bajo Village, and Batu Cermin Village. All participants are expected to become ambassadors or agents of change for the surrounding community. The activity was carried out in a hybrid way, namely offline and online via Zoom and YouTube, and was opened by the Regional Secretary of West Manggarai Regency, Drs. Fransiskus S Sodo, Director of the UI Directorate of Community Service and Empowerment (DPPM), Agung Waluyo, S.Kp., M.Sc., Ph.D, and the President Director of PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero), Muhammad Wahid Sutopo.
Pijar Suciati S.Sos., M.Si, Head of the Community Service Team who is also a Lecturer in the Public Relations Study Program, UI Vocational Education Program, said that Bergizi dari Bumi Kami is a program that supports the efforts of the West Manggarai Regency government to reduce stunting rates. “Stunting is a priority issue in NTT. This encourages UI and PII to collaborate to conduct social campaigns in the form of education and build public knowledge about foods with high nutritional value, but easy and cheap to obtain,” said Pijar. Furthermore, Pijar explained, education was carried out in the form of workshops for parents of children with stunting, there were also educational materials in the form of audio-visuals for 6 nutritious recipes, as well as an educational calendar.
President Director of PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (Persero), Muhammad Wahid Sutopo, said that this program is a form of concern for the community around infrastructure projects. “We hope that through the CSR program PT PII together with UI, can make a significant contribution to supporting the Government’s program to reduce stunting rates as a form of measures to improve the health and quality of human resources in Labuan Bajo and NTT in general. We believe that with adequate nutrition, there will be cadres of the nation’s children in Labuan Bajo who excel and are creative, so that through tourism they can become a prosperous society,” continued Sutopo.
Drs. Fransiskus S Sodo, Regional Secretary of West Manggarai Regency, said that his party welcomes and is grateful for the attention of UI and PT PII to the stunting case in Labuan Bajo.
“The problem of stunting is a large social problem in NTT, including West Manggarai, accounting for approximately 15.1% of the number of children under five measured. And we are targeting the stunting rate to drop to 10% next year. The presence of PII and UI in the joint service program is an integral part of the stunting rate suppression process because it directly educates cadres and parents of toddlers. The suppression of stunting cannot only be carried out by one party, but requires collaboration between various parties including academics and SOEs. I hope this collaboration will be a strong and sustainable collaboration to create a healthy Indonesia and produce the best generation for the future,” said Fransiskus.
Universitas Indonesia is always committed to contributing to society through programs under the auspices of the UI Directorate of Community Service and Empowerment (DPPM).[:]
