Depok-Universitas Indonesia (UI) through the Public Relations study program, Vocational Education Program, held PRAction 2025 which will run until May 20, 2025. Together with the Makaravox UI PR Awards, this program was officially opened on April 15, with the theme “The Power of Communication: Preserving the Ocean, Eliminate Exploitation”. Through this activity, UI highlights the role of strategic communication in efforts to preserve the ocean and reduce exploitation of natural resources.
PRAction is an annual event that brings together students, pupils, and professional public relations practitioners from all over Indonesia to hone their communication skills in the form of PR campaigns, public speaking, and short videos as innovative and impactful Public Relations (PR) strategies. This annual activity is an implementation of the integration of various Public Relations study programs. This year, the event was combined with the Makaravox UI PR Awards as a form of appreciation for the creativity and contribution of students, pupils, and corporations in the world of public relations.
In the opening which took place online, more than 100 participants from universities and high schools/vocational schools in various provinces in Indonesia participated in this competition. The PRAction 2025 competition aims to invite the younger generation to be aware of the importance of effective strategies in nature conservation, especially through communication media. According to the Head of the Public Relations Study Program, Mareta Maulidiyanti, S.Sos., M.M., this activity is not just a competition, but also a space for education and transformation.
“PRAction has been implemented since 2020 involving universities and high schools/vocational schools from various provinces in Indonesia. After the previous year focused on cultural diversity, PRAction 2025 wants to invite the public to realize the importance of protecting the sea. This year, more than 100 participants joined to compete in a sporting manner to make their respective alma maters proud,” said Mareta.

At the Grand Opening of PRAction 2025, Nadine Chandrawinata—an actress, model, and environmental activist—was the keynote speaker at the event. She inspired the audience through powerful messages about the role of communication as a tool for change to preserve the environment, especially the ocean. Nadine, who is also known as the founder of the Seasoldier movement, shared her story of her struggle in raising issues of ocean exploitation through creative campaigns and public advocacy.
She said, “The right communication can build empathy and create real change in the way we treat the ocean and the environment. The key to creating change is action from yourself. That action is done consistently and starts from the simplest thing.”

Director of UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said that this year’s PRAction theme is in line with UI’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDGs number 14. “The theme that was raised already represents UI because every event, both academic and non-academic, will be directly related to SDGs. The presence of Nadine, who is an activist and fighter for the marine ecosystem, is very much in line with the SDGs that were raised,” he said.
Through PRAction 2025 UI continues to spread the spirit of collaboration, inspiration, and sustainability. Further information about this activity can be accessed through the official Instagram account @praction.ui or through OA LINE @028mbjdh.
