Jakarta – Located at the Class IIA Women’s Penitentiary Pondok Bambu, 10 Students and 4 Lecturers of the Office Administration Study Program provided digital marketing training and launched a website www.lapita.co.id which functions as a digital marketing medium for products made by prison residents. This program is a community service that has been running for 10 months which aims to provide a marketing platform for prison products and improve the capabilities of inmates in digital broadcasting.

Mohammad Ridha, Head of Community Service (Pengmas) “Digital Marketing Assistance for Class IIA Women’s Correctional Institutions” said that the idea of creating this website emerged after the team identified that so far the marketing of products made by assisted residents has been hampered due to limited digital marketing facilities and knowledge.

“The potential of prison is very large, especially since the work of the assisted residents is very varied, such as knitting crafts and foods that have a high selling value as long as they are properly packaged and given attractive branding. Unfortunately, sales are limited to prison shops. With this online sales website, it is hoped that it will expand the market, “said Ridha. Ridha also said that with this community service, it is hoped that each of the assisted residents can increase their creativity and be independent. To make the website attractive, the assisted residents are trained in product photography, social media publications and search engine optimization. In organizing this activity, the team collaborates with the Creative Lab in fostering and creating websites.

On that occasion the community service team also provided grants in the form of desktop computers, digital cameras, photographic devices and production raw materials. This activity was welcomed by the Head of the Jakarta Women’s Prison, Yuli Niartini. This is because currently all production at the Jakarta Women’s Prison is stagnant due to inadequate marketing. “Like a tit for tat, so far we have had a very difficult time marketing the children’s work so that they are just ‘stuck’ in prison. We are very grateful for this collaboration, ”said Yuli at the opening of the seminar.

Throughout 2019, Vocational Education Program will carry out 41 community service which is a grant program from the Directorate of Research and Community Service, University of Indonesia. The programs implemented are spread throughout Indonesia and are expected to be able to contribute to society and be sustainable so that they have a significant impact on the beneficiaries.
