Depok-Three students from the Public Relations (PR) study program (PR), Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), succeeded in getting the third place title in the OlymPRDay category, the Padjadjaran Public Relations Fair (PPRF), in the 2024 UNPAD Epicentrum competition. The event held by the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Padjadjaran University, in March-May 2024 is an annual international communication festival which is packaged in the form of various competitions, such as communication research, social campaigns, journalism, public service advertisements, and others.

Rahel Sriwahyuni Sinaga, Hanna Allysya, and Shofiah Nur Azizah, who are members of the Bejo Team – which means that even though the members are women, they are a strong team –, took part in the OlymPRDay competition category in the form of a campaign related to plagiarism issues. Rahel, a member of the Bejo Team, revealed that their campaign theme was “Guardians of Integrity: Fighting Plagiarism with Digital Ethics to University Students”. Entitled “Be Original”, the campaign brought by Rahel and the team uses the PESO strategy and pre-event, main event and post-event tactics.

“In order to solve the problem of plagiarism, we have developed a communication strategy in a persuasive way to the public, especially students. The main event will be held on February 19 to coincide with Anti-Plagiarism Day. Meanwhile, the other two activities are a special competition in the form of stand up comedy and a special workshop on creative writing by Dian Sastrowardoyo and Raditya Dika,” said Rahel.

The campaign carried out by the Bejo Team is based on a lack of self-awareness and education regarding current student plagiarism, thereby reducing awareness of academic integrity. UI itself has implemented a plagiarism prevention service using several devices to check plagiarism in scientific works. Rahel added, “We want the public to be influenced by information and knowledge that plagiarism can damage reputation and trust in the academic world, as well as hinder the progress of science. Apart from that, another goal is for everyone to appreciate the work of others in order to achieve true integrity.”

On the other hand, Rahel also said that the process of making their campaign proposal could be made as good as possible thanks to the learning received in class. Some of the courses that were sources when creating the Bejo Team’s campaign proposals included: Communication Program Preparation, Communication Marketing, and Public Speaking.

According to him, the learning received in class can be applied directly through competitions like this. UI Vocational’s practice-based curriculum has proven successful in bridging its students to achieve. Padang said, “Apart from being a place to train themselves, the competition in which Rahel, Hanna and Sofi participated, will be experience and capital for them to become public relations practitioners in the future.”
