Depok-Director of the Vocational Education Program at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D; accompanied by four permanent Vocational lecturers, visited Seattle, United States of America, as a form of commitment to global engagement and expanding international networks and promoting partnerships with various global companies. They visited Amazon Inc., Warner Bros. Discovery, and Microsoft XBOX. The collaboration that will be carried out includes an international internship program and ideas for laboratory development cooperation, as well as a certification program.
“As a vocational education program, the expansion of cooperation is carried out not only to national industries, but also to world-class companies. We are initiating a collaboration with Amazon Inc., exploring with Warner Bros Discovery, and Microsoft XBOX, especially for study programs in the field of communication, such as Media Production and Public Relations,” said Padang.
Collaboration with foreign industrial partners is very important to create a climate of learning and global competition from an early age. “We can’t deny that currently, opportunities and competition in the world of work do not recognize regional and area boundaries or are often called borderless. The existence of an international internship program allows students to be given the opportunity and have a competitive spirit in order to be accepted and work in foreign companies,” said Padang.

Amazon Inc., which is a multinational technology company in the fields of e-commerce, cloud computing, online advertising, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence, welcomed this visit. Collaboration assessments were carried out, namely student internships, teaching, and community outreach on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The pilot project for this collaboration was implemented in the Media Production study program which started with the Media Intelligence course, and progressed to the Public Relations, Multimedia Broadcasting, and Creative Advertising study programs. Meanwhile with Microsoft XBOX, an internship program is being discussed so that it can begin to be implemented in the Asia Pacific area.

“We also initiated a production laboratory partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. As we know, Warner Bros. is a global media and entertainment company that produces content for films, television, sports, news and games,” said Padang during a visit last June.
Paula Kosasih, MBA, Product Management Lead for Warner Bros Discovery, said that basically UI Vocational and Warner Bros Discovery have the same values, namely continuous innovation. “Our company really sees an innovation as an opportunity. We see that what UI Vocational is doing by involving foreign companies in the learning process is a visionary innovation. Of course, this can provide experience for the younger generation to compete globally,” said Paula.
