Depok-The 2025 Jakarta Provincial Student Sports Week (POMPROV) provided a platform for Kusfira Haningrum Tresna Kinanti, a Physiotherapy student in the Vocational Education Program at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), to achieve success. Kusfira won a gold medal in the taekwondo under-67 category at the recent POMPROV Jakarta 2025.
The POMPROV (Provincial Sports Week) is a provincial-level sports competition organized by the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Dispora) every two years. Each year, this event brings together talented young athletes from various universities in Jakarta Province. Kusfira performed convincingly in the kyorugi event, winning gold despite suffering a hamstring injury before the match.
Preparing for the POMPROV was no easy. Kusfira trained regularly every day, even twice a day leading up to the match. A week before the match, Kusfira suffered a left hamstring injury, a condition where the muscle in the back of the thigh is pulled or torn. This injury can severely impair explosive movements, especially in sports that rely heavily on the feet like taekwondo. The injury nearly made her lose her ability to kick, even though kicking is a key element in taekwondo. To recover, Kusfira underwent intensive therapy at the Vokasi Wellness Center (VWC) at the Universitas Indonesia. She admitted that she came almost every day for treatment so she could still be on the court. “The week before the match, I went to VWC almost every day to heal my hamstring. Actually, it was still sore until the match day, but I kept trying until the end,” she said.
During the competition, Kusfira faced tough opponents, including athletes with experience in national and international competitions. Despite being lighter than her opponents, Kusfira found an advantage through her punches. “More than 50% of my points in the match came from punches,” she explained. This unique strategy ultimately led to her gold medal victory.

Over the course of her career, Kusfira’s motivation has grown from the simplest of things: the desire to look cool on the field. She admits to always rewatching match recordings to maintain her enthusiasm. For her, this motivation keeps her consistent and never satisfied with her achievements. Kusfira said, “If motivation is limited to achieving a specific goal, like getting into the National Training Center, that’s limited. But if my motivation is to continue looking cool, I will never stop improving.”
As a student, Kusfira also tries to balance her studies with training. She divides her time by practicing in the evenings after class or in the morning if there are afternoon classes. Winning at the Jakarta Provincial Sports Week (POMPROV) was an important first step for Kusfira. This achievement will lead her to continue her efforts in the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS), which will be held from September 19–27, 2025.
Finally, Kusfira offered a message to fellow students with passions, whether in sports or other fields. “Never listen to negative comments or doubts about you. Focus solely on self-evaluation and continuous improvement. Confidence is the number one rule, because results don’t come instantly. The most important thing isn’t the final result, but rather who can persevere and not give up along the way,” she said.
Kusfira’s achievements are clear evidence that UI Vocational students are capable of shining, not only in academics, but also in the world of sports. The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, also expressed his appreciation for this achievement. Padang said, “Kusfira has demonstrated dedication, fighting spirit, and extraordinary commitment in bringing honor to the UI alma mater. This achievement not only makes the campus proud, but also serves as an inspiration for all students to continue to excel in their fields. We will continue to strive to support students in developing their potential, both in academic and non-academic fields so that UI Vocational can produce superior graduates and have a positive impact on society.”
