Depok-The development of the esports industry in the world is increasingly rapid. This is no exception, in Indonesia which occupies the 17th position in the largest gaming market with very fast growth based on data from the 2021 Global Games Market Report. In fact, based on the Indonesia Esports Industry Outlook 2021, Indonesia contributed the largest revenue worth USD 2.08 billion or around IDR 30 trillion. These conditions show that the esports industry has quite large potential in Indonesia. Seeing this phenomenon, the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), which has a curriculum focus on new media, is participating in realizing the potential of the esports market so that it continues to grow.

The Media Production study program has signed a cooperation agreement with PT Teknologi Abadi Sejahtera (Mineski Indonesia), one of the esports agencies in Southeast Asia and part of Mineski Global. One of the agreed collaborations is the Freedom to Learn (MBKM) internship program for Media Production students. This implementation is proven by the internship program currently being carried out by two Media Production students, namely Yoga Aditya Prathama and Muhammad Toriq Hafidz. Both of them work as Marketing Social Media Officers.

Yoga shared his experience in creating social media content for a project. For example, PUBGM X Dragon Ball, PUBG Mobile Valkyrie Battleground, Tower Of Fantasy 1st Anniversary, MLBB Ads, and MICC Season 1 projects. He said, “My duties while at Mineski Indonesia were to focus on creating project content ideas, compiling an EP, creating event content, media buying event promotions, creating after-event reports, and others.”

Another project that the two of them had handled was the MLBB 7th Anniversary, the seventh anniversary of Mobile Legend: Bang Bang, which was held on October 6-8 at Taman Anggrek. On this occasion, they helped create social media content related to the event and interacted a lot with the team and various Key Opinion Leaders (KOL). Another event is MPL ID Season 12 where they have to cover on ground content directly at the event location every Thursday-Sunday during July-October. Toriq explained, “My participation in various events has given me new experiences. For example, how to coordinate with various teams. Apart from that, I am increasingly convinced that the esports industry is growing in Indonesia and is very promising.”

Both said that the internship activity was very useful and provided many new insights, especially in the esports industry. “I hope that this internship will be a bridge for my future career and add new networks. Moreover, I am really interested and interested in getting involved in the world of esports,” said Yoga.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., stated that the internship program which is a mandate of the Freedom to Learn curriculum, namely the opportunity to study freely in the fifth semester, has had a positive impact on them. Previously, students were also provided with various courses that focused on the current needs of the creative industry. Rangga said, “Media Production graduates will later become people who can develop the market potential of the creative economy according to their respective fields, one of which is esports industry. UI Vocational will always provide support to students so that they become quality graduates and have experience in industry even before they graduate.”

The internship program run by Yoga and Toriq lasts for six months from July to December 2023. They hope that this internship activity can broaden their insight into the world of esports and the various potentials within it.
