Depok-Students of the Tourism Business Management study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) have just carried out the Jakarta City Tour activity on March 28-29 2023. This activity was carried out as one of the student field practice activities in the course Tour Guide Practice and Tour Operation Planning Practice.

In this activity, students become tour guides and tourists alternately at several tourist objects. Themed Jakarta City Tour, the selected tourist attractions include several iconic locations in Jakarta, namely the National Monument (Monas), Kota Tua, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

Head of the Tourism Business Management Study Program, Anisatul Auliya, SST.Par., M.Par., said that the city tour activities had significant benefits for students. “This practical activity can train students to seek and improvise information, practice English skills, and practice directly dealing with certain conditions to prevent unwanted things when traveling,” said Auliya.

Departure is carried out from UI Vocational by bus to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. The journey continues by looking at tourist attractions, monuments, and the road being passed, otherwise known as a passing sight. During the trip to the Kota Tua, tourists can see Pantai Indah Kapuk, Museum Bahari, Menara Syahbandar, and other tourist objects while listening to explanations from the tour guide. Arriving at Kota Tua, several students did on-site guiding practices, to be precise in front of the Jakarta History Museum and Sunda Kelapa Harbour.

When traveling to the next object, namely Monas, tourists will see tourist objects on the right and left that have an interesting history, such as the Tugu Harmoni, Lapangan Banteng, Istiqlal Mosque, Cathedral Church, Ministry of Finance Building, and others. After that, the last tourist attraction that closed the Jakarta City Tour that day, namely TMII.

Auliya added, “The practice of becoming a tour guide requires important and thorough preparations. Students must continue to practice in doing public speaking, mastering tourist object material, passing sights, and organizing a trip so that it can be carried out smoothly and well.”
