Depok-In the spirit of social concern and empowerment of the younger generation, students of the Office Administration study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), together with the Yayasan Siap Bergerak successfully held a social activity entitled CERIA (Love, Empathy, and Joy with the Elderly) at the Budi Mulia 4 Tresna Werdha Social Home. The activity initiated by students of the Office Administration study program was held on November 8, 2025.
In addition to its relatively close location to the UI Depok campus, this home houses over 290 elderly people from various backgrounds. These include those living alone, former street survivors, and those without immediate family. As a government-managed social care facility, the need for attention, warm interaction, and emotional support for the elderly is crucial. With the theme of intergenerational warmth, CERIA’s activities are filled with various interactive activities, including workshop, guessing games, and musical entertainment that stimulate laughter and enthusiasm among the elderly.

Mila Viendyasari, S.Sos., M.Si., Chair of the Yayasan Siap Bergerak, stated that this activity is part of the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening the younger generation’s empathy for vulnerable groups. “CERIA is a meeting place that connects the hearts of the younger generation and the elderly. The presence of these young people is a form of love, a warm embrace, and a reminder that they are not alone,” Mila said.
In addition to providing entertainment, the students also distributed daily necessities and health supplies to support the nursing home’s services. Jenar, a representative from the Budi Mulia 4 Social Home for the Elderly, expressed her appreciation for the concern shown by the UI Vocational School students. Jenar said, “Activities like this are very meaningful for the elderly. The students’ presence provides a form of entertainment and proves that many young people still care about their environment.”
The students felt that this experience provided a much broader learning experience, including a real contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Starting from SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by providing social interaction and attention to vulnerable groups, to SDG 17 (Partnerships for Goals) through collaboration between students, foundations, and social institutions. Kayla Putri Azzahra, one of the students who organized the activity, said that this activity gave a positive reflection for her and other students. Kayla said, “We learned how to coordinate, work in a team, and understand the needs of the elderly directly. This activity made classroom learning feel real and showed how our small contributions can have an impact on the surrounding environment.”

The Head of the Office Administration Study Program, Radityo Kusumo Santoso, S.I.A., M.M., expressed his appreciation for the students’ initiative. “We are very proud to see students able to integrate administrative knowledge with impactful social activities. The ability to plan events and interact with the community are important professional skills. Moreover, experiences like this instill human values that cannot be taught through theory alone,” Radityo said.
Through the CERIA program, UI Vocational students and the Yayasan Siap Bergerak hope that the spirit of love, empathy, and concern for the elderly will continue to grow in the community. Besides being a valuable experience for the students, this activity is expected to inspire more people to take action and share happiness.
