In his presentation, Rushli emphasized the importance of alignment between identified risks, their causes, existing controls, and mitigation plans. Rushli also explained the importance of using tools such as the Ishikawa diagram in the process of identifying risk causes, as well as implementing risk analysis based on impact, likelihood, and velocity. This evaluation process refers to the UI risk management framework, including grouping risk areas based on their level of exposure.

“Risk management is not just about complying with administrative obligations, but rather a strategic tool for maintaining the continuity of campus activities, improving operational efficiency, and protecting the institution’s reputation. Risk registers and mitigation measures must be developed realistically and aligned with the work unit’s conditions,” Rushli explained.

The Vice Director for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at UI Vocational, Deni Danial Kesa, M.B.A., Ph.D., also delivered remarks and emphasized the importance of a risk-aware culture within UI Vocational. Deni stated, “Risk management is a crucial element in planning and decision-making at UI Vocational. Through a structured understanding and management of risk, we want to ensure that all academic, administrative, and student service processes are sustainable and accountable.”

In addition to the presentation sessions, the activity also included technical training on completing quarterly mitigation monitoring reports, risk control evaluation checklists, and risk register reviews. Interactive discussions and inter-unit work forums were also crucial in unifying understanding and risk management strategies at the faculty level.

“This activity really helped us develop a more concise and contextual risk register. The explanations and examples of mitigation planning were very applicable and relevant to the challenges we face in our work unit,” said Siti Ikhwani Karimah, S.A.P., a participant from the Human Resources Unit.

This activity is the first step in strengthening governance and institutional integrity within the UI Vocational. Through mentoring from the UI DMRT, it is hoped that all work units will be able to implement a risk management system that is adaptive to future changes and challenges.
