Depok-Office Administration study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), held a public lecture entitled “Project Management Basics: The Key to Successful Project Management” on November 26, 2024. The public lecture presented Burhanuddin Akmal, Project Manager of Metrodata Academy, as a speaker and was held in the UI Vocational Intraco Room.

Akmal explained that project management is the process of planning, organizing, and managing resources to achieve specific project objectives within a specified time and budget constraint. “Project management has various benefits, namely reducing project risks; increasing overall productivity and work quality; budgets and schedules are well managed; companies gain competitive advantages; and improving relationships with stakeholders,” Akmal explained.

In a project there is a project life cycle or a series of stages that are passed during the project. Starting from initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring and control, to closing. Akmal provides a case study to the audience to train themselves in carrying out a series of stages of a project so that it is carried out properly.

Akmal further said that in running a project, a project manager (PM) is needed. PM is an individual who is responsible for planning, managing, and supervising a project to achieve predetermined goals within the desired time, budget, and quality limits. In order to support work as a PM, there are several competencies that need to be possessed, namely leadership, time management, effective communication, problem solving, analytical skills, and adaptability.

Akmal added, “The career path for a project manager usually involves a professional journey from an entry-level role to a strategic position leading a large project or even managing an entire project portfolio within an organization.”

Head of the Office Administration Study Program, Radityo Kusumo Santoso, S.I.A., M.M., said that this public lecture will provide knowledge to students to learn about project management. “This public lecture will provide students with the provisions to understand the industrial world in depth and encourage them to become reliable practitioners in organizing a project. In addition, graduates of Office Administration are also expected to be able to become project managers from entry-level to Chief Project Officer (CPO) level,” concluded Radityo.
