Depok-The Vocational Education Program of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) held an Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) event for three days, namely August 15, 16 and 18, 2023. Taking place at the UI Vocational Auditorium, the event successfully presented various speakers in various fields , namely Herman Saheruddin, S.E., M.S.M., Ph.D, Director of the Deposit Insurance Corporation Research Group; Dr. Pahala Nainggolan, Ak., Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring of the Corruption Eradication Commission; Nadif Zahiruddin, B.Sc., Co-Founder of KUY Media Group; and Aji Selo, M.B.A., DA/Starfire Digital Discovery Product Management Amazon.com. More than 1,500 new UI Vocational students class of 2023 attended the PKKMB activity.

The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, in his remarks, said that all UI Vocational students need to take a role in improving the quality of human resources in Indonesia. He said, “I congratulate all new UI Vocational students class of 2023. Hopefully UI Vocational will become a new home for you to develop and provide various works for Indonesia. Let us grow together, as educated and competent human resources for a developed Indonesia.”

In his presentation, Herman said that the importance of financial management for today’s young generation is one of the keys to facing the global challenges they will encounter, both in the world of college and when they graduate.

“Currently, literacy regarding financial management is an important issue that needs to be understood by the younger generation. Before investing, they need to fulfill their basic needs, emergency funds and insurance. This will make investments more stable,” said Herman.

Furthermore, Pahala also emphasized the importance of integrity in carrying out their role as a student. He explained various acts of ‘small’ corruption that could occur on campus, including cheating, plagiarism and gratification to campus officials. According to him, these three things are crucial if students make it a habit. He said, “I hope that UI Vocational students will not take this action. I’m sure we can all prevent ‘small’ acts of corruption starting from ourselves.”

On this occasion, Aji Selo and Nadif Zahiruddin, who are practitioner lecturers in the Media Production study program, shared their experiences in preparing themselves for a career in global scale industry. Selo said that building a strong support system is important when being a student. Apart from that, they also need to know important things and be wise in making decisions.

On the other hand, Nadif explained that students need to be agile in facing today’s increasingly large industry. “Build visionary and global thinking. The experience and education you receive as a UI student can be a provision for you to participate as a world community and deal directly with global challenges,” said Nadif.
