Depok-The community service team from the University of Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program returned to the Kampung Pemulung Creative Extension House in Pondok Labu, Jakarta, with an activity titled “Financial Literacy and Online Loans.” This program is a concrete example of UI Vocational contribution to empowering the community by increasing financial literacy, particularly for low-income residents vulnerable to illegal online lending practices.
In this activity, participants were encouraged to understand the importance of smart financial management through counseling, interactive discussions, and simple financial planning simulations. The material presented by Priyanto, S.S., M.Hum., a lecturer in UI Vocational, covered saving habits, spending planning, debt management, and strategies for avoiding detrimental online loan traps. Furthermore, the consultation session provided a space for participants to directly discuss their family’s financial situation and practical solutions for managing household finances.
Additionally, one of the UI Vocational education staff, Deki Surahmat, S.Sos., M.M., emphasized the importance of early financial awareness to prevent people from easily falling into unhealthy financial practices. This activity also supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically points 1 (No Poverty) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by encouraging economic independence and wise management of financial resources at the community level.
Through sustainable financial education like this, UI Vocational strives to create a society that is more economically resilient, socially empowered, and able to make smart financial decisions amidst the development of digital technology.
