Depok-The Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program held a creative thinking workshop titled “Improving Problem-Solving Skills with Critical and Analytical Thinking” on August 12, 2025 in the UI Vocational Intraco Room. The event was attended by 39 academics, including lecturers and administrative staff, as part of an effort to strengthen the work culture in line with the Integrity Zone commitment within the UI Vocational.

This workshop featured Roy Avianto, ST, CT, a BNSP competency certification instructor with experience in developing critical thinking and analytical thinking skills. The material presented covered both skills in evidence-based decision-making, avoiding cognitive biases, and applying problem-solving methods such as the 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, SWOT analysis, and Pareto Analysis. Roy presented data from the 2023 World Economic Forum that critical and analytical thinking skills are among the top ten most needed skills in the global job market until 2030. In fact, teams that use an analytical thinking approach can increase productivity by up to 30% according to research by the Harvard Business Review.

“Critical and analytical thinking isn’t just theory; it’s a skill that must be continually honed. Through this ability, we can avoid bias, make data-driven decisions, and create truly effective solutions. In a work environment like UI Vocational, these skills will strengthen the integrity and quality of service provided to the academic community,” said Roy.

Roy emphasized that critical and analytical thinking skills are crucial in the digital age to avoid logical fallacies, increase productivity, and foster innovation. Participants were encouraged to practice identifying root causes, testing assumptions, considering alternative perspectives, and constructing logical and structured arguments.
