Depok-Record and Archives Management Study Program (MRA), University of Indonesia (UI) can be one of the choices for high school/vocational high school students to continue their studies at the higher education level. Graduates of this study program have promising opportunities in the job market considering the need for archivists in Indonesia has only been filled by 2.5%. This study program (Prodi) which is under the auspices of the UI Vocational Education Program prepares and produces applied scholars in the field of Records and Archives. MRA produces graduates skilled in managing and preserving information or knowledge, archives and records, as well as having supporting soft skills such as ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills.
Dyah Safitri, S.IPI., M.Hum, Head of Records and Archives Management Study Program, said graduates of the MRA Study Program can play a significant role in managing records and archives in the midst of the development of digital technology as it is today. “Archive management is a promising profession and plays an important role in the creation, management, storage and access and utilization of archives for the benefit of individuals, institutions, and society at large,” said Dyah.
Graduates of the MRA study program have the opportunity to become an Archives, RIM ( Record Information Management ) Manager , Data Analyst , Record Controller , Project Document Control , Information Manager , Information Governance , Knowledge Manager , to Document Management Specialist . “The need is high, but the number of graduates in this field is still small, so there are great opportunities for graduates to be able to work quickly. On average, our graduates are able to get a job between 0-3 months after graduation, some have even been asked to return to work since they graduated,” said Dyah.
He said that this study program builds 20 (twenty) main competencies of graduates, including being able to apply the organization, selection and packaging of records and archives conventionally and based on Information and Communication Technology (ICT). In addition, he or she must be able to manage conventional and ICT-based records and archives, be able to help the public access conventional and ICT-based records and archives, be able to select conventional and ICT-based records and archives that are oriented towards community needs, and able to communicate in Indonesian and foreign languages properly and correctly.
In addition, graduates have the ability to build ICT-based record and archive management in government/private institutions, choose innovative records and archive management methods, validate the functions and work procedures of records and archives by utilizing ICT innovatively, analyze the management of electronic official manuscripts innovatively , analyze the need for electronic service script services in an innovative and responsible manner according to professional ethics, and be able to design an active archive distribution flow.
They are also able to design active archive security aspects on active archive information systems, design active archive metadata on active archive information systems, design active archive retrieval on active archive information systems, design archive files on active archive information systems, choose security and disaster mitigation methods vital archives through media transfer, designing records and records management work using databases, planning archives dissemination projects, selecting archives dissemination methods, and selecting strategies for digital preservation management.
Dyah explained, in the applied undergraduate program, students are required to take 144 Semester Credit Units (SKS) in 8 semesters with a curriculum of 70% practice and 30% theory. “The study will be taken in 4 (four) years and the degree that will be obtained is S.Tr.Rek/Ars and will have the opportunity to take part in an advanced record and archive management certification. In addition, for practical activities we involve practitioners and various industrial partners so that students have the opportunity to handle archives in real terms,” he said.
In the 2021/2022 Academic Year, the UI Vocational Education Program offers 15 selected study programs for prospective students. Nine Study Programs are for the intermediate expert level, namely Hospital Administration, Accounting, Public Relations, Creative Advertising, Multimedia Broadcasting, Insurance and Actuarial Administration, Finance and Banking Administration, Office Administration, and Tax Administration. In addition, there are six study programs for the Applied Bachelor level, namely Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Records and Archives Management, Creative Business, Media Production, and Tourism Business Management.
