Depok-University of Indonesia (UI) and the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Board (Kemenekraf/Barekraf) of the Republic of Indonesia signed a Joint Memorandum of Understanding to support the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education and the development of the creative economy. The signing took place on January 22, 2025 at the Vocational Auditorium Building, UI Depok Campus, by UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU. and Secretary of the Kemenkraf/Barekraf of the Republic of Indonesia, Dessy Ruhati, witnessed directly by the Minister of Creative Economy, H. Teuku Riefky Harsya.

This agreement covers a number of strategic areas, such as education, research, community service, research collaboration, training, seminars, and human resource competency development. Minister Teuku Riefky emphasized that this collaboration uses a hexahelix approach involving government, academics, businesses, communities, media, and financial institutions.

“I hope that this collaboration can continue to develop and be carried out with concrete follow-up in the form of collaboration on strategic planning for the creative economy, community service as part of the Three Pillars of Higher Education, as well as the development of study programs and scholarships related to the creative economy,” he said.

Meanwhile, UI Rector, Prof. Heri Hermansyah, said that this synergy is in line with UI’s commitment to become an institution that is “Impactful and Excellent for Indonesia.” He added, “This collaboration is a real form of our joint contribution in supporting economic development based on knowledge, culture, and creativity. Hopefully, the strategic steps we take today can bring great benefits to the Indonesian nation and state.”

As a follow-up, the event was continued with a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) discussing the formation of a consortium of creative economy colleges. The FGD presented the Deputy for Strategic Development of the Creative Economy, Cecep Rukendi; Acting Director of Institutions of the Ministry of Higher Education Science and Technology, Dr. Benny Bandanadjaja; Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono; and the Rector of President University, Handa S. Abidin.

Padang Wicaksono emphasized the importance of collaboration through a consortium to develop a creative economy ecosystem that includes the establishment of a creative economy hub, business accelerator, competency-based training, and collaboration between the creative industry and vocational education. “Thus, the contribution of the creative economy sector to state revenue can increase, supporting the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045,” he explained.

On that occasion, the UI Vocational Education Program also showcased various student innovations that support the development of the creative industry.

Also present at the signing ceremony were UI Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Ir. Mahmud Sudibandriyo, M.Sc., Ph.D.; Head of the UI Cooperation and Entrepreneurship Board, Dr. drg. Nia Ayu Ismaniati, MDSc., Sp.Ort(K)., Subsp. D.D.T.K.; and Head of the UI Quality Assurance and Internal Supervision Board, Dr. Edmon Makarim, S.Kom., S.H., LL.M. Meanwhile, from the ranks of the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Board of the Republic of Indonesia, among others were Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology Neil El Himan; Director of Music Mohammad Amin; Director of Funding Access, Financing and Investment Anggara Hayun Anujuprana; Director of Marketing System Development and Institutional Relations Radi Manggala; and Director of Intellectual Property Facility Development Muhammad Fauzi. Meanwhile, the Rector of President University, Handa S Habibie., S.H., LL.M., Ph.D. and the Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, Dr. Irwandi, M.Hum., were also present at this event.
