Depok—The Master of Applied Creative Industries study program in Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), held a guest lecture titled “Transmedia Storytelling in the Game Industry and Its Influence on Other Media” on November 11, 2025 in the Master of Applied Creative Industries Room. This activity is part of the study program’s efforts to enrich students’ learning experiences through direct presentations from creative industry practitioners.
This guest lecture featured Livander Surya, CEO of Aim to Mite Studio, known for his active involvement in game development and cross-media narrative strategies. This session was integrated with the Cross-Media Narrative course, which discusses how a story can evolve and transform across platforms such as games, films, comics, social media, and marketing campaigns.
In his presentation, Livander explained how the gaming industry has become a major generator of transmedia storytelling in the digital age. According to him, games are no longer standalone entertainment products, but rather the center of a storytelling ecosystem that can be expanded to other media. “When stories are developed transmedia, we’re not just creating a product, but building a world. This world is what allows audiences to connect more deeply and follow the narrative across multiple platforms,” Livander said.

We also encourage students to analyze innovative examples and develop their own stories as provisions for their final assignments.”
Hanif Insan Rabbani, one of the students, said he felt immediate benefits from the experience of meeting industry practitioners. He also mentioned that the guest lecture opened up new perspectives on story development strategies. “After listening to Mr. Livander’s presentation, I better understand that transmedia requires planned, consistent story design that keeps the audience engaged,” Hanif said.
This guest lecture also supports UI Vocational School’s involvement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly point 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), which focuses on strengthening creative industry competencies. Furthermore, this activity creates an applicable learning experience that is relevant to industry dynamics and encourages students to continue innovating in creating strong and impactful narrative-based works.
