Depok-The Department of Applied Social and Humanities, Vocational Education Program at the Universitas Indonesia (UI), held a community service activity titled “Kampung Main: Education for the Preservation of Traditional Games” in Lembur Sawah Village, Mulaharja Subdistrict, Bogor City. The activity, held on September 24 and October 11, 2025, demonstrated the collaboration between study programs within the Department of Applied Social and Humanities, which are committed to strengthening the role of academics in preserving local culture.

This activity is the result of a synergy between six study programs under the department: Records and Archives Management, Tourism Business Management, Public Relations, Multimedia Broadcasting, Creative Advertising, and Media Production. This collaboration is designed to combine expertise from each field to support the preservation of traditional games as part of the nation’s culture.

Furthermore, this community service initiative is motivated by communities like Lembur Sawah Village in Mulaharja, Bogor, which has significant potential for preserving traditional games as part of its local identity. However, the lack of access to cultural education, limited documentation of local games, and the absence of structured programs involving the community have resulted in sporadic preservation of traditional games, which tends to weaken over time.

This community service also included promotional videos and podcast videos covering Kampung Main activities with local children discussing the importance of preserving culture and introducing businesses through mobile games themed traditional games. The second activity (October 11, 2025) included outreach on the importance of family archives and reintroducing the traditional games of Congklak and making Volcano to children. As an effort to instill the values of togetherness and preserve cultural heritage. Through a fun, interactive approach, it is hoped that the younger generation will grow with an awareness of the importance of preserving culture and the environment.

In addition to producing tangible products in the form of activity documentation, the community service team also conducted a social evaluation using the Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach to assess the social impact and benefits of the activities.
