Depok-The Multimedia Broadcasting study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), has reaffirmed its commitment to producing creative people who are skilled, adaptive, and have a real impact through an activity entitled “Documentary Screening”. The activity held at the UI Vocational Auditorium on June 4, 2025 was a series of Final Semester Exams for the Feature and Documentary courses taught by Penny Hutabarat, S.Sos., M.S.M. and Muhammad Dicka Maarif Alyatalatthaf, S.I.Kom., M.I.Kom.
This activity is a real implementation of the UI Vocational learning approach that emphasizes direct practice and industry experience. “Documentary Screening” is divided into two sessions; namely the first session featuring ten documentary films by students from the 2023 batch; and the next session presenting the screening of the documentary film “Ngomi o Obi” by Arfan Sabran with TV Tempo, accompanied by a masterclass session with the TV Tempo team.

Director of UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, in his speech, expressed appreciation to the students who have created visually interesting documentaries that also touch the human side. “Every documentary carries a responsibility to remain honest, empathetic, and not forget that the best work is work that is able to inspire, not just entertain,” said Padang.
The event also featured a number of inspiring speakers who provided in-depth perspectives on the world of documentaries and social issues, namely TV Tempo Director Anton Aprianto; Ngomi o Obi director Arfan Sabran; and Ibrahim, a local figure from Obi Island whose story is the center of the documentary. Also present as a guest judge was Donny Herwanto, Head of Creative Production Division of TV Tempo, who appreciated the quality of the production and depth of the students’ narrative. “The work of these students is not just a technical result. There is a sense, concern, and strong effort to voice social realities that are rarely raised,” said Donny.

The lecturer who teaches the course and is also the Head of the Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Penny Hutabarat, S.Sos., M.S.M., also expressed her pride in the students’ achievements. “The films they make are not just assignments. This step is their learning process to empathize, to see the world from a different perspective. They learn to involve feelings, not just skills. I believe that works that are born with sincerity will find their way,” said Penny.
More than 200 Multimedia Broadcasting students from various batches also attended the auditorium where the screening took place. The atmosphere of the event was warm and full of appreciation—proving that UI Vocational students do not only talk about concepts, but also show real action through interesting and creative works.
