Depok-The Multimedia Broadcasting study program of the Vocational Education Program at the Universitas Indonesia (UI) held a Townhall Meeting for the Even Semester of 2026 on February 12, 2026 at the UI Vocational Auditorium. This event served as a space for reflection, strengthening the direction of learning, and fostering a shared vision between faculty and students in responding to the dynamics of the multiplatform media industry.
The Multimedia Broadcasting townhall meeting began with a guest lecture entitled “Learning Skills: Developing Critical Thinking Skills” delivered by Prof. Dr. Kasiyah, Professor of Online Learning Systems at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia. Integrated with the Creative Thinking course, this guest lecture session emphasized that creativity is rooted in the quality of thinking.
Prof. Kasiyah emphasized that critical thinking is a purposeful, reason-based, and goal-oriented thought process. This skill encompasses six core abilities: interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, argumentation, and self-regulation.

In addition to cognitive aspects, critical thinking is also guided by intellectual standards—clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, logic, and fairness. It also encompasses mental dispositions such as open-mindedness, curiosity, intellectual courage, and, no less importantly, intellectual humility, integrity, and ethics.
“Critical thinking is the ability to evaluate assumptions, including one’s own, and to make self-corrections. Creativity grows when critical thinking is combined with a foundation of experience, knowledge, and sensitivity to the realities around us,” she emphasized.
In line with the Head of the Applied Social Humanities Department, Dr. Budiman Mahmud Mustofa, in his remarks, who said that the quality of thinking determines the quality of decisions, and ultimately determines the quality of work.
“Therefore, be a reflective media creator and be responsible for every piece of content you produce,” he said.

The next session presented the direction of study program development by the Head of the Multimedia Broadcasting Study Program, Peny Meliaty Hutabarat, M.S.M., along with the entire Multimedia Broadcasting lecturer team. In her presentation, she explained that amidst the transformation of the creative industry, graduates are prepared to become adaptive, ethical multimedia storytellers and able to work across platforms (radio, podcasts, television, film, social media, and interactive digital content). The media industry is now moving as an integrated multiplatform ecosystem, so cross-format competency is a competitive advantage for graduates.
The process-based and work-based learning model emphasizes four main stages: planning, execution, evaluation, and reflection. Students are assessed not only on the final product, but also on production discipline, work processes, team collaboration, and responsibility for content quality. Peny added, “In the media industry, a portfolio is the most concrete representation of ability or competence. The ideal portfolio for Multimedia Broadcasting students includes audio works (podcasts/radio), video works (features, documentaries, short films), interactive digital content, documentation of the production process, and reflections on learning.”
The townhall meeting also emphasized the strengthening of KITA’s values: Competent, Integrity, Transformative, and Adaptive. Communication ethics, time management, and respect for copyright, as well as the transparent and ethical use of AI as a tool (not a substitute for creativity), were also presented as part of professional character development starting in college.
The townhall meeting concluded with an appeal to all students to work diligently, work ethically, and grow gradually through consistency and dedication. UI Vocational serves as a learning and mentoring space, while success remains determined by the discipline and integrity of each individual.
