Depok-The sworn translator profession is one of the skills needed by the industrial world, especially for agencies that require ratification of documents in foreign languages and are legally recognized. Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights Number 4 of 2019, to become a Sworn Translator, one must pass the translator qualification exam conducted by the National Professional Certification Board (BNSP) and coordinated by a professional organization or university.
The UI Professional Certification Institute (LSP UI) is the body that coordinates the translator’s qualification exam activities through certification activities for sworn translators. LSP UI and the Ministry of Law and Human Rights have held an Equalization Test for Sworn Translators of the Governor’s Decree (SK) at the UI Vocational Education Program on 17-18 June 2022.

Head of LSP UI, Dr. Rahmi Setiawati, S.Sos., M.Si., conveyed that the certification test activity was carried out for translators who had previously been sworn in through a Governor’s Decree so that they could be equalized in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
“The certification was carried out by direct appointment from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and BNSP to LSP UI to hold a translator qualification exam. A total of forty translators have conducted translator qualification exams for the Indonesian-English and English-Indonesian directions,” said Rahmi.

Meanwhile, the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, expressed his pride in holding the certification to support the sworn translator profession. He said, “LSP UI, as a special work unit under UI Vocational, strives to continue to support all activities that can help improve the quality of the profession in Indonesia.”
Every year, LSP UI certifies more than 700 UI Vocational students. The certification is a form of support from the UI Vocational as a companion document other than a diploma, which is given as proof of the competence of graduates who are qualified and competitive in the industry.
“Furthermore, LSP UI will also cooperate with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in the activities of the sworn translator qualification exam for other foreign language directions. We hope that this Sworn Translator scheme can also be immediately applied to all prospective graduates of the University of Indonesia,” said Rahmi.
