Depok-A number of students from the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI) class of 2024, conducted a study visit to the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Indonesia some time ago. Located in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, students from the Media Production study program were received by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). The group of students from the Media Production study program were received by Miklos Gaspar, Director of the UN Information Center in Indonesia, to provide knowledge about the objectives of the UN in Indonesia.

The presence of the UN is to support the development of Indonesia as one of the developing countries carried out through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). One of the programs is to provide an opportunity for a prisoner to reflect on themselves through a skills training program. This step allows them to better reintegrate into society. In addition, UNDP also supports farmers with effective training, especially since many Indonesian farmers work on marginal land. This training not only increases productivity, but also helps farmers in distributing agricultural products and improving their economy.

Miklos said that UNDP is working to maintain the sustainability of the agricultural sector by supporting farmers to remain relevant amidst the challenges of the times, while also addressing the issue of declining interest in the profession by the younger generation. “UNDP encourages the industry to be more environmentally friendly by advocating for policies and providing regulatory incentives that encourage sustainable practices. The program includes innovative waste management, energy efficiency, and adaptation to climate change. This approach aims to maintain a balance between environmental sustainability and human existence,” said Miklos.

The UN’s support through UNDP demonstrates the importance of cross-sector collaboration in realizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiated by the UN. Each goal, from poverty alleviation, quality education, to climate change action, is closely interconnected in creating inclusive and sustainable development.

According to him, this study visit will provide new experiences for students in studying various policies that have a global impact. “I hope students get a positive impression after visiting the UNIC office. Various global challenges faced by the world are the basis for learning for them to contribute to the creative industry in the future,” said Rangga.
