Depok-Students of the Media Production study program, Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), made an inspiring visit to Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2025 on October 25, 2024. This visit is a form of insight development activity specifically designed to provide students with direct experience in understanding the creative industry, especially in the fashion and media fields.
On that occasion, students had the opportunity to witness firsthand a series of fashion shows that showcased the latest works from various famous designers. To name a few brands, such as Oscar Lawalata Culture, Danjyo Hiyoji, SEBASTIANred, Benang Jarum, Sonderlab, and others. More than just watching the event, Media Production students also got exclusive access to see another side of JFW by taking a backstage tour. There, they witnessed the preparations of the models and production team, starting from the make-up process, fashion styling, to the final touches done before the models stepped on stage.
Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., said that the industrial visit to JFW which has been carried out periodically every year is one of the learning platforms for students before entering the industrial world. “Through this visit, students will gain real insight into the dynamics behind the scenes of a major fashion event. We hope that this opportunity can enrich students’ knowledge in the field of media production and provide inspiration in various aspects, such as photography, content creation, and event management,” said Rangga.
The visit to JFW 2025 provided a hands-on experience that is rarely received in the classroom. In addition, this visit can also foster students’ enthusiasm and creativity in creating innovative and relevant works in the industrial world. The visit ended with a discussion session with several professionals in the fashion and media industries who had the opportunity to share experiences and tips with students. This activity not only increased understanding of the creative process in organizing fashion events, but also provided insight into cross-sector collaboration in the creative industry.
