Depok-The Universitas Indonesia (UI) Vocational Education Program inaugurated the Herbal Garden on campus as an effort to preserve the environment and support the UI GreenMetric global initiative that makes UI a pioneer of green campuses in the world. The launch of the Herbal Garden was held on May 19, 2025 which coincided with the 17th Anniversary of the UI Vocational Education Program. Taking place in the UI Vocational green open area, this launch involved management, lecturers, education staff, and students.

The Herbal Garden collection includes various types of plants from various groups, such as medicinal rhizomes, medicinal shrubs, herbs, medicinal trees, short plants, vines, to flowers and vegetables. There are 32 plants, namely ginger, turmeric, ginseng, galangal, sand ginger, fingerroot, castor bean, cat’s whiskers, creeping shrub, red coleus, saucer leaf, cripple grass, green chireta, basil, rosemary, peppermint, moringa, rosary pea, pomegranate tree, kaffir lime, lime, miracle leaf, elephant’s foot, aloe vera, suji, betel, morel berry, red betel, wild betel, bitter vine, aglonema, sweet leaf bush, chili, and others.

Director of UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, said that planting the herbal plants is one of UI Vocational’s real contributions to support and strengthen UI’s position in the global green campus network. “Later, UI Vocational academics can utilize the harvest of these plants for their consumption. Hopefully, the existence of this Herbal Garden can be the first step for other contributions towards a sustainable campus,” said Padang.

The launch ended with the symbolic planting of medicinal plants by a number of UI Vocational management.
