Productive plants are types of plants that can produce fruit that can be consumed to meet human needs. There are two benefits to be gained from planting productive crops, namely reforestation and the potential economic value of the trees planted. This activity is also in line with UI Vocational’s support for one of the focuses of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Environmental Development through sustainable greening and environmental preservation activities. A safe, comfortable and clean environment is the main goal in creating a quality work atmosphere and output. Sustainable environmental development in the campus area is one of the efforts in implementing SDGs.
Director of UI Vocational Education Program, Padang Wicaksono, S.E., Ph.D, in his speech, reiterated his support and commitment to supporting environmental development in the campus area. “I agree and support greening activities like this to be carried out. I hope that actions related to environmental development like this must be carried out sustainably. In the next few years, today’s tree planting activity will have a positive impact on the environment, for those of us here, and also for the surrounding community. UI Vocational continues to be committed to providing a positive impact sustainably to the wider community,” said Padang.

During the activity, a total of 35 butter avocado trees were planted around the UI Vocational green area. The selection of butter avocado is based on the potential benefits that can be obtained. Not only as an ornamental plant that produces oxygen and preserves the environment, butter avocado is also known to be rich in fiber which is good for digestive health. Butter avocado trees also tend to bear fruit quickly if they are well cared for, such as paying attention to watering times and avoiding weeds and pests. Butter avocado fruit can be harvested approximately six months after the flowers bloom. Not only stopping here, UI Vocational continues to be committed to making efforts to manage and develop a sustainable environment by planting the next productive plant, namely durian. The crop planting activity is also in line with UI’s goal of becoming a green and sustainable campus through the UI GreenMetric innovation.
