Depok-Python is a programming language designed to be easy to read and write, and flexible for various types of software development. Python has become an essential programming language in various industrial sectors in Indonesia. With the increasing need for data analysis, automation, and software development, the demand for professionals who master Python is expected to continue to grow. Based on World Bank data, Indonesia needs nine million workers in the information and technology (IT) sector in 2025-2030.

Responding to this challenge, the Vocational Education Program, Universitas Indonesia (UI), through the Media Production study program, held a community service activity (pengmas) entitled “Coding Day” on May 16, 2025. Located in Building B Vocational UI, UI Depok Campus, the activity was attended by approximately thirty students from SMA Islam Al Azhar 19 Jakarta. Livander Surya, S.Kom. or better known as Livander Gamedev, CEO of Aim to Mite Studio, as well as a game developer and content creator on YouTube, was also present as a resource person to share his experiences in the world of programming.

Head of the Media Production Study Program, Ngurah Rangga Wiwesa, M.I.Kom., said that coding teaches students how to solve problems in a structured and systematic way. Not only that, through coding, students can create something from scratch, such as simple applications, educational games, to websites for portfolios. “In this digital era, coding skills are needed in various fields, from information technology, creative industries, to science and economics. Learning coding from an early age will give students a competitive advantage in the increasingly digitalized industrial world. In addition, students need to get this training to increase creativity and innovation, and they have an initial foundation to continue in the field either when studying or entering the world of work,” said Rangga.

On that occasion, Livander invited participants to learn the basics of programming using the Python language. Livander said, “Python is characterized by simple and clean syntax. Python is also easy to read for beginners because its syntax resembles human language. In addition, Python can also be used for web development, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, games, scripting, automation, and the Internet of Things (IoT).”

Livander also shared his experience in creating various games based on Python. For example, Animal School SIM; Preman Kota; Scarlet Kuntilanak; Hantu vs Dukun; Berandal Sekolah; to collaboration with Tekotok.

Furthermore, Livander also invited participants to practice directly creating simple programs with Python. Fayyadh Devara, one of the participants, said that he was very happy to get the opportunity to learn coding from an early age. “Activities like this are one of the places for us to get new experiences in learning knowledge outside of school subjects. Interestingly, we can also use our knowledge of coding to create works such as interesting games,” said Fayyadh.

Finally, Livander said that coding is an important part of 21st century digital literacy. The younger generation is not only becoming users of technology, but also creators. This makes them more critical of digital applications, cybersecurity, and the ethics of using technology. “Coding is not just about learning computer languages, but also developing ways of thinking, innovating, and adapting in a rapidly changing world,” Livander concluded.
