Depok-UI Vocational Student Executive Board (BEM) in collaboration with Agent&Co held the Tangkas-Webinar Series Roadshow entitled “The Secret to be Ready for Endless Career Opportunities” on Tuesday, March 15th 2022. It is a series of events organized by Agent&Co in collaboration with various universities in Indonesia for the career development of students in the future. In this webinar, UI Vocational BEM invited Jirzy Zaidan, a Lead Trainer at Shipper – a logistics and warehouse aggregator startup in Indonesia – to share experiences and tips for students in preparing for a career in the industry world.

The job of tomorrow condition often occurs in the community. There are several reasons behind this condition. In the next five years, it is estimated that 85 million jobs will be displaced, but at the same time there will be 97 million new jobs as a result of the industrial revolution 4.0. In 2025, analytical thinking, creativity, and flexibility will be the most sought after skills, and improving the quality of human resources in a company will be one of the main focuses in business competition.
Jirzy explained that preparation for a career in the future is something that needs to be done, especially by students. “Before starting a career, people need to know what the business situation and conditions are in the 4.0 era, and what their goals are for working. After knowing the value and skills of theirself, also the benefits that will be received in a job, of course it will make it easier to achieve that career,” Jirzy explained.

The demographic bonus phenomenon that is currently happening in Indonesia makes everyone have to compete in achieving their career. Self-improvement is an important thing to do to win the competition. During the college period, a person can develop theirself through maximizing academic values, achievements, internships, certifications, and building relationships. “In addition, one important thing is the mastery of foreign languages, especially English, which is currently an international language,” Jirzy added.
After completing the collegeperiod, this career achievement can be optimized through an amazing curriculum vitae (CV), the LinkedIn use as a social media and career development platform, participation in company career programs, also other personal development such as training and certification, which can support quality improvement.

At the beginning of their career, often a person does many things that can have an impact on them, both positively and negatively. Jirzy gives some tips that can be done and should be avoided in starting a career, namely 1) Do not be too picky at work; 2) Instill the mindset of always wanting to learn; 3) Make plans and targets to be achieved; 4) Be aware of the career that you want to build; 5) Focus on yourself; and 6) Be valuable and try your best at work. “Through the self-potential development, I believe that everyone can take and build the career they want to achieve in accordance with the expectations and desired targets,” Jirzy concluded.
