In his presentation, Roy highlighted the importance of a work culture rooted in organizational values and embodied in daily actions. Roy also introduced three pillars of culture that support productivity and superior service, namely integrity & professional ethics, collaboration & inclusive environment, and innovation & freedom of thought. Roy said, “Work culture is not just written rules, but like the ‘air’ we breathe every day at work, which feels fresh when healthy and stuffy when full of stress. Cultural change also starts from small actions, such as arriving on time, daring to admit mistakes, being open to input, and respecting each other. From these habits, productivity and service quality grow naturally.”

Roy also encouraged participants to engage in various reflective activities, such as identifying cultural barriers to work that impact productivity and designing personal action plans. Participants were also encouraged to understand that the UI Vocational values are guidelines that must be consistently applied.

One participant, Hadawiyah, S.Hum., a staff member of the Archives Unit, said she gained many practical insights from the activity. “I realized that a positive work culture must start with ourselves, including simple things like respecting our colleagues’ time and providing empathetic feedback,” Hadawiyah said.

In keeping with the spirit of this workshop, UI Vocational also implemented the nine UI Cultural Values: Honesty, Responsibility, Compliance, Togetherness, Openness, Justice, Trustworthiness, Dignity, and Academic Freedom. Through understanding and implementing these values, every employee is expected to act as an agent of change in creating a work environment with integrity, harmony, and innovation.

This activity is part of UI Vocational School’s ongoing efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). Furthermore, strengthening a positive work culture is also a concrete implementation of UI Vocational commitment to realizing an Integrity Zone towards a Corruption-Free Area and a Clean and Serving Bureaucracy Area. Through internalizing the values of integrity, collaboration, and responsibility, a healthy work culture becomes the main foundation for creating a transparent, accountable, and service-oriented work environment that is superior to public service.
