Depok-The Vocational Education Program of the Universitas Indonesia (UI) inaugurated the Pickleball Field on May 4, 2026 as a manifestation of the institution’s commitment to encouraging the implementation of a healthy and active lifestyle among the academic community. This inauguration is also one of a series of activities in the 18th Anniversary of the UI Vocational Education Program. The inauguration event was carried out symbolically by the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Students and Alumni of UI, Prof. Dr. Hamdi Muluk, M.Si.; Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Dr. Safrin Arifin, SKM., S.St., M.Sc.; Vice Director for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the UI Vocational Education Program, Badrul Munir, Ph.D; and Vice Director for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of the UI Vocational Education Program, Titin Fachriah Nur Anwar, S.E., M.M., CA.

This pickleball court serves as a sports facility for the entire UI Vocational community, from lecturers and administrative staff to students. It is hoped that this facility will support a healthy, productive campus environment with a balance between academic and non-academic activities.
In his remarks, Prof. Hamdi stated that the development of sports facilities is a crucial part of building a holistic campus ecosystem. “UI continues to strive to create a campus environment that not only excels academically but also supports the physical and mental health of the entire academic community. The presence of this pickleball court is a concrete manifestation of UI’s support for inclusive, enjoyable, and accessible sports activities for all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Safrin emphasized that the construction of this facility is also in line with UI’s support for global sustainability principles. Safrin said, “This pickleball court can be a sports facility as well as a contribution from UI Vocational in supporting the UI GreenMetric program and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly on the points of Good Health and Well-being and Sustainable Cities and Communities. We want to ensure that the development of campus facilities always takes into account environmental aspects, sustainability, and the quality of life of the academic community.”
The inauguration was attended by members of the UI Vocational academic community, including lecturers, educational staff, and students, who enthusiastically enlivened the event. An atmosphere of togetherness and a spirit of sportsmanship was evident throughout the series of activities. Following the inauguration, Prof. Hamdi explained the basic rules and procedures of pickleball to the participants, followed by a friendly match.

This activity also served as the opening ceremony for the pickleball tournament, which was held on May 4–7, 2026. The tournament served as a competition and a forum for interaction between members of the academic community, in order to strengthen relationships and build a culture of healthy living on campus.
