Depok-Nine students of the Financial Administration and Banking Study Program, Vocational Education Program, University of Indonesia (UI), won three Technical Excellence Awards for chatbot work in the Chatbot Finance Datathon 2020 competition which was held online. Chatbot is an automated chat application that can be applied on a company’s website or other platforms to help two-way communication between information users and operators.
This competition is held by the global Artificial Intelligence (AI) professional community AI4IMPACT in collaboration with the Singapore technology company Terra AI and the Business Indonesia – Singapore Association (BISA) community, and supported by the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore. The final round for the Datathon Chatbot Finance Series 4th Round took place online, on October 21, 2020.
In the final round, UI Vocational students who are members of these three teams, competed with 30 chatbot nominees from a total of 120 participants from various universities in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.
The three chatbot works designed by the students are, first, Sharikuy Chatbot, Education of Islamic Finance, by Nvidia Rifa, Rio Andrian, and Ellisa Ade (Chatbot Link: https://app.smojo.org/indobot019/bot). Sharikuy is an educational chatbot to introduce sharia financial products, sharia investments, sharia product recommendations, and benefits of sharia.
The second design is Vesta Chatbot, Stock invest 4 dummies, by Aulia Akbar, Dede Deniawan, and Febe Pesta (Chatbot Link: https://app.smojo.org/indobot012/bot). This Vesta Chatbot is aimed at improving investment understanding, especially stock investment. Third, the design of Alodiazada, M. Fadhil and Nengsi Pakpahan, who created Mr Cuan Chatbot, advisory financial banking (Link Chatbot: https://app.smojo.org/indobot009/bot). This chatbot helps its users to choose banking products and provide information about products that are on sale and according to their needs.
“The participation of students in this competition also opens the horizons of UI Vocational students to the interest of professionals in Singapore which is quite high in terms of learning chatbots, even some campuses include it as learning material. With this competition, students can learn about the use of AI in the fields of finance and banking. In addition, through this competition, it also increases the creativity of students with non-IT backgrounds,” said Dede Suryanto, the head of the mentoring team who is also the Head of the UI Vocational Financial Administration and Banking Study Program.
One of the students who is a member of the Sharikuy Chatbot team, Ellisa Ade said, “We are proud to be able to represent Vocational UI in the international arena. We are challenged to have high creativity and must have a very comprehensive understanding of financial content so that we can successfully create an interactive and very attractive chatbot.”
Director of the UI Vocational Education Program Prof. Dr. Ir. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo, DEA appreciate the achievements of UI Vocational students in the international arena. He said, “This achievement is proof that Vocational UI has talented young talents in the field of AI applications. The ideas produced by UI Vocational students answered the challenges of banking services that are increasingly needed by the application of digital technology. UI Vocational who have a Finance and Banking study program sees these challenges as opportunities that should be developed to expand access and speed of banking service processes. Our study program students have been accustomed to being able to adapt to the latest technology in the banking sector so that they do not stutter when entering the industry in the future.”
The Singapore-based Finance Datathon 2020 chatbot took place from May-September 2020. This competition is a series of Artificial Intelligence for Industry tournaments consisting of the Deep Learning Series and Chatbot for Finance Series and has been attended by more than 1,400 participants from universities from various countries, as well as participants from professional workers.
