Depok-Jean Nursyahbani Ninkeula, a student of the Vocational Education Program of the University of Indonesia (UI) Office Administration study program, won third place in the 2020 National Outstanding Student Selection Event (Pilmapres). This event was attended by 202 students from polytechnics and vocational programs/schools throughout Indonesia. The 2020 National Pilmapres was organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) through the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) whose announcement was made on Saturday (12/9). The entire series of activities was carried out online.

Jean is a representative of the UI Vocational Main Presidential Headquarters who represented UI at the 2020 Pilmapres event. At the national level, Jean managed to pass the first stage by setting aside 138 other participants. According to him, “In the first stage, the number of participants for the Vocational level throughout Indonesia reached 202 students. After successfully passing the first stage, I competed with 63 participants, and in the final round I competed with 19 other finalists.”

In the final round, participants were not only judged on their intellectual aspects but also based on creative ideas, superior works, and mastery of foreign languages. Thus, it is hoped that the selected participants have the skills, insights, attitudes and social concerns that are qualified to hold the title as outstanding students.

On this occasion, Jean proposed a creative idea entitled “SI AKSI: Simple solutions in overcoming flood disasters.” This Scientific Paper synergizes products, programs and applications. The product made is a prototype of a three-dimensional (3D) mockup of disaster management aimed at providing socialization and education to children living in disaster-prone areas.

“Indonesia is a disaster-prone area and can come at any time. There are so many children who lack information about disaster management, both mitigation and others. I hope that with this product, children will be more educated to protect their environment and have knowledge in dealing with disasters that are ready to come at any time,” said Jean.

In addition to the product, the program created is “SI AKSI: Synergy of Disaster Fighters.” Through this program, Jean carries out a program to form a community based on social dedication aimed at people living in flood-prone areas, especially the city of Bekasi as the city of implementation, in addition to that this SI AKSI will be applied to community evacuation posts as a place of complaint as well as a place of socialization to the community and has prepared assistance in the form of scholarships for children living in disaster-prone areas with the help of cooperation with several foundations and non-profit institutions. In line with SI AKSI’s programs and products, Jean also designed an application called “SI AKSI DIGITAL APP”. This digital-based application is shown to shareholders or volunteers who want to provide assistance to be right on target to people affected by disasters.

On a separate occasion, the Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Prof. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo, DEA, said that Jean’s achievements were a source of pride for UI, especially the Vocational Education Program. “We hope that this achievement can be a motivation for the younger classmates at Vocational UI, as proof that Vocational UI can compete nationally. UI Vocational emphasizes real and applicable programs as a characteristic of Vocational work,” said Prof. Sigit.

In the same year, he also won 1st place in English Speech at Pancasila University in the “Communication Fair” event and won 2nd place in English Debate in the “Vocational Scientific Olympiad throughout Indonesia” at Diponegoro University.
